    1080P resolution problems :(

    Hi All,

Recently i've been trying to up my resolutions to 1080p with no luck.
I've upgraded drivers for my BFG GTX280 AND Syncmaster 932mw, and even enabled the resolutions in nVidia control panel... but every time i try to use them the moniter displays a message saying this is not the optimal setting and flashes 1440x900 60hz in my face. :s

Now i know this is a 1080p capable display. not only because it says on the box but a friend of mine has the same display with 2 8800gtx's and he's able to run these resolutions.

    display setup is as follows:

    BFG GTX280
    Syncmaster 932mw (native resolution 1440x900)

any help would be massively appreciated.

    ta

set it to 1440x900, any other resolution (particularly a higher one) is utterly pointless

    Re: 1080P resolution problems :(

you do know that monitor is 1440x900 maximum resolution dont you ?

and you also know 1080p resolution is 1920x1080

if you you cant do the maths and your friend has the same monitor he is confused if he thinks his 1440x900 can display 1920x1080 as its technically not possible

while it does have a HDMI input it does not mean it can display full HD, only 720p

i have no idea how you came to be so sure it could do this as it cant ?

    Re: 1080P resolution problems :(

If it says it on the box it probably means it can receive a 1080 image however this is outputted as 1440*900.

This would distort the image and that's why you cant, your best just running at 1440*900 this way no scaling has to be applied to your image Or buy a set capable of displaying 1080.

A simple 'this can't be done' would have sufficed.

No... lol besides at 1440X900 with your card you should be able to have every last bit of eye candy on in pretty much every game out, crysis and GTA 4 excluded lol.

    Re: 1080P resolution problems :(

should you override the display limits the picture would go out of bounds so you wouldnt see the extra image over the max res.

you cant squash a pixel, its not like old CRT's

i may be a little harsh, if you knew what i have been through the past 2 weeks you would understand.

Tbh i'm not sure if its a nVida related thing on 1440*900 monitors. My new GTX 260 wouldn't detect my monitors native resolution when i installed it and it wasn't on the list of resolutions to pick from so I had to create a custom resolution. in addition to this for certain games to run at my monitors native res of 1440*900 I need to set the resolution in the game(Far Cry 2 & Warhead) to 1600*900 - the only time i've noticed it does this is when i run them in Dx10 mode, though.
