    Recommend A Monitor

Hey, i recently built a gaming computer and have been using an old monitor to play games on but hasnt got great resolution, so i came here to see if you could suggest a monitor for around £100 to £150 and tell me what type of resolutions are good for gaming.

    Thanks

    Re: Recommend A Monitor

With your current system either 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 are the resolutions I would be looking at.

Here are two 24" monitors which fit into your price range:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158543

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159782

They are both 1920x1080 resolution monitors. The advanted of going for a lower resolution monitor is that you will get higher framerates in games. 20" and 22" monitors tend to be 1680x1050. Make sure that the monitor is DVI though and not VGA only as the former improves image quality.

Thanks for the response. Do you think its worth going for a 1920x1080 moniter or should i just go for a 1680x1050 moniter for a better performance. Also is there a big difference in fps betwwen the 2 resolutions?

What resolution you go for depends whether in normal use it will have any appeciable difference for you. The advantage of going for a 1680x1050 monitor is that you will be able to play games at the native resolution of the LCD panel in the monitor for a longer period and not resort to scaling if you have to play at a lower resolution which can lead to poorer image quality although this dependent on the monitor. Also since the graphics card has to push out nearly 20% less pixels at 1680x1050 you will be able to have higher settings in games. The HD4890 is currently fine with most games at 1920x1080 but whether it will be in the next year or so is hard to say. Of course there is more choice within your price range for 22" monitors too!!

This Samsung is a nice monitor for the price:

If you need DVI this is the cheapest I have seen so far:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159417

However it has a 16:9 ratio which is not as good as a 16:10 ratio for word processing.

If VGA is fine then the following will do the job:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167062

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128036

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169636

They are all 16:10 ratio models.

The Cibox you have listed is VGA only.

Aria is a well known retailer. However a monitor is just more than its specs though!! Just because the panels have similar specs dos not necessarily mean the cheaper ones use the same panel as in the Samsung. Also the onboard electronics maybe not as good which can also affect image quality as are things like the uniformity of the backlight. Also the build quality of the Samsung is probably better and it probably has a better warranty too.

TBH,I would make sure that I would do some research first on the cheaper models first to see how they actually perform though.

If you want a cheaper display consider this Benq one:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149408

It has a decent review too:

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/monito...2in-Monitor/p1

You may have to get a DVI cable too.

There is also this monitor too from AG Neovo:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-Ne...kers-DVI-Cable

You are also available for free postage from Scan on orders over £20 excluding VAT too as you have 20+ posts.

    It has decent reviews too:

i had a feeling that even though the specs were the same the quality of the build of the samsung would be make it better over the 2 i posted.

Reading reviews for both the samsung and the neovo they both sound good and im thinking of going with the neovo seeming its £40 cheaper but do you think the samsung is worth the extra £40?

The Samsung is nearer £200 at other well known retailers though and Ebuyer had to up the price from £149.99 too!! I would think that the Samsung is better but if you are on a budget get the AG Neovo. I believe both models are matt too as I would find a glossy display annoying for gaming, word processing and image editing.

I think the Benq monitors are a good choic. You should pick the G2410HD though as it comes with DVI, alternatively take a look at the G2412HD which even got HDMI. All of them are 1920x1080 and full hd.

You should consider future applications with your monitors and spend a little more to get the HDMI pluggins. I would recommend the G2411HD instead, as it is true 24 inches, 1920x1080, full HD, HDMI + DVI + D-sub, and it has 2ms response time. Here is a pretty thorough review on the G2411HD:

    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.
