Using a pc on a CRT tv

    Hi,

I have a pc with the following mboard.

    http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/mothe...&fMTYPE=LGA775

It has an integrated 7300 graphics with a HDMI and DSub connections. I am running Win7 RC 64bit.

My tv is a Sony CRT. So I cannot use HDMI and must use DSub which I connect to Svideo input on the tv.

The problem I have is that the nvidia drivers do not go low enough to match the tv's resolution. After googling, I found that Nvidia removed low res tv support from their drivers some time ago. I found some really old drivers that should support low res tv, but they are 32 bit which means an OS reinstall.

Anyone have any ideas? I am cash rich/time poor so would rather buy a ATI low profile graphics card than reinstall a 32bit OS (assuming modern ATI drivers allow you to connect to a CRT tv)

    Thanks for your help.

    Intresting problem.

Have you tried without nvidia drivers? ie remove them and don't install new ones.
That "should" force windows to use generic vga drivers, but the performance will suffer.

You could try the Omega drivers as well http://www.omegadrivers.net/

the lowest res allowed on most gpus these days is 640x480 or even 800x600. tbh at 800x600 res the destop becomes extremely cramped and even the properties menu for the desktop doesn't fit entirely so it's a nightmare trying to adjust anything. i reckon it's time for a new tv

Yes, I know. I switched to 640x480 on a computer monitor in between connecting it to the tv. A new tv is a tempting. As I said before, I am cash rich/time poor, but that is upto 50quid cash rich!

Good ideas. I will try both those suggestions.

i used to run a htpc on a crt tv. i just bought a cheap graphics card with s-video output. worked great, no need to worry about screen res.

i assume you are using the tv for movies/music not word processing/web viewing. something like this should be fine http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/256MB...-DVI-I-S-Video
