    Resolution issues

    Hi guys,
In a couple of days when I get my pocket money (:>) I'm gonna go for a 24" iiyama hd ready monitor.
I know its Twisted Nematic but I'm happy with that, there's simply no way I can spend much more than £200 on a monitor. I currently have a 15" crt, so you can see why I want to upgrade . My problem is thus: What kind of resolution is 1920 x 1080? I see al games benchmarked in 1900 x 1200. If I play games can I then play at my highest native resolution or do I have to go back down to the next "preset"? The reason I want this monitor is because it is HDCP compliant so I could watch blu-rays.
Are there any other issues with this resolution?

    Re: Resolution issues

Most, probably read that as all, newer games will allow you to set the res in game to your native resolution its only the older games that might force you to run at something other than your native res, and then its more than likely down to the fact they don't support widescreen resolutions.

    Re: Resolution issues

No you won't have any issues with that resolution. Only really old games will refuse to work properly, for that check out WidescreenGamingForum.

Some games like LOTR:ROTK can't be modded at all to work properly on 16:9 & 16:10 which is

    Re: Resolution issues

1920x1080 is "full hd" so given the excessive marketing that "full hd" has had it's safe to assume that every game from now on will without a doubt support it, along with future movies and tv programs etc. it's a good resolution to have

    Re: Resolution issues

One other question. The monitor above says HD ready but for 30 pounds more I can buy a FULL HD monitor. Given that I have seen people saying that this one plays blu-rays at 1080p what on earth would be the point of paying more?

Most monitors (probably not the case in the future, I curse whoever decided that 16:9 is a better format than 4:3 for office work / internet!) use a 16:10 aspect ratio (1920x1200).

The 1920x1080 (1080p) is mainly used by consoles and movies, and the extra 120 pixels will be black bar on the top and bottom when playing such games/movies. If you don't think you need the extra, go for the cheaper one. You just get 10% less (but bigger) pixels and you probably wouldn't notice the difference if you're upgrading from 22" or less.

What is the link of the other monitor?
Probably one is newer. Even the same model from different retailers have different price.
Or it could be that one have VGA only and another one have DVI/HDMI

both of them are "FULL HD", it must've been a marketing mix-up.

I reckon the £200 needs less power. But I'm not sure.
Here is the other one anyway.

I'm pretty sure that http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159339 is the older model and http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161554 is the newer model.
The panels are probably from different batches which had different manufactoring costs which would be what effected the retail price.

Go for the cheaper one and if you're planning on gameing then I hope your graphics card is up to it because there's a MASSIVE graphical performance requirement between a 15"crt and a 24" LCD resolutions.

I only play ET which is completely CPU based
Plus I lookes up 1080i 1080p and it really doesn't bother me It seems unlikely 1080p will become the standard in the near future. Seeing as this is the case, I'll have the cheaper one thanks

    Re: Resolution issues

1080i means you have a refresh rate of 30hz which isnt very good if you wanna play games at the native resolution. best go with the expensive one this time
