    Cooler for ATI

    Hi guys,

I'm just trying to configure my new pc at pcspecialist.co.uk

I have kind of narrowed it down to two cards:
    1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 4890 PCI EXPRESS
    1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 4850X2 PCI EXPRESS

They are both quite similar in price, so in that regard I'm different. However, as far as I can tell from reviews both cards seem loud. I figured it might therefore be a good idea to use a cooling system to take off the pressure from the fans, I am offered the following cooling:
SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER, £20
ASUS TRITON 81 PURE COPPER BASE ULTRA COOLER, £50
COOLIT DOMINO A.L.C. CPU LIQUID COOLER, £70

    Please give me your thoughts!

Or any suggestions for more quiet GPUs of similar standards? Nvidia any better in this regard?

The new ATI DX11 cards are supposed to be launched on Thu so you may want to wait and see what price and hard availability date they have.

Having said that, the coolers offered are for CPUs so they won't stop the graphics cards from being noisy. PCSpecialist do give you the option of sourcing the graphics card elsewhere so if you are after a quiet ATI card then you could look at the Sapphire Vapor-X.

Looks like a standard 4890 = £127 from PC Specialist
Vapor-X £160 @ Scan which is a £4 premium over the non Vapor-X Sapphire but £30 more than an XFX 4890.

Of course you can always buy the computer then fit an aftermarket cooler when it arrives. I'll probably be fitting one on my 1GB 4870 when I buy it.
