    19" mon

    a choice between 18.5" Samsung SM933SN or 19" Viewsonic VA1916w.

i'm not using this for gaming so the higher res does not mean much to me... but a like to know which has a better picture/colour quality. as i'll be wanting to watch movies in it, and mostly it's for work, word/spread sheet etc.

any input will be most appreciated.

As the proud replacer of 25 Viewsonic monitors presently dying at a rate of 1 per month, I'd go for a Samsung personally.

Samsung also get my vote. Very nice monitors, quality build, highly recommended all round the net.

Samsungs are good but I recently bought a cheap 22" DCM which I think it is made by Digimate and I'm impressed with that for the price.

    Re: 19" mon

to be honest, both monitors are about the same price with the viewsonic having a higher res. i opted for the viesonic for this reason only with some good customer ratings, but after hear that the viewsonic having a short life span, i changed my order to the samsung.

    i'm glad i posted here..

I don't know the details, but the school I work at were sold a load of Viewsonic monitors a few years ago by their contracted IT firm. They just keep dying - not really sure why, seeing as there seems little point in trying to fix them.

I'm just waiting to run out of spares, at which point we will probably just replace a large proportion of them.

I'm sure it's age more than anything (just each reaching their individual end of lifespan), but nonetheless I'm not particularly impressed - I think they should be surviving a bit better than they are.

Why are you settling for a 19 inch?
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.

err... it's very cheap. the fact that i spent just over a £100 for a 19". so why not??? seems like a good deal to me compare to 1 yr ago which cost over £200...

Between these two I would personally go for the Samsung.

    Re: 19" mon

If you want a 19 inch monitor maybe you should wait a bit for BenQ G922 HDL, it's a LED monitor 1440x900 display, 5ms response time.

    Check it out.

    EDIT*
Apologize on the monitor resolution. Correction:
    BenQ G922 HDL: 1366x768
    BenQ G920 WL: 1440x900

    Re: 19" mon

I believe it should definately fall within the £100 margin, because in order for BenQ to stay competitive as they tend to ALWAYS be they will engage in price wars with their competitors and tend to usually have one of the best and lowest prices in comparison to others! Definately consider waiting for it, it's just around the corner!
