Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
For gaming, 22" screens are usually 1680x1050 which doesn't strain your gfx card as much as 24" screens at 1920x1200 (you'll want to be running at your screen's native res) which means higher fps.
If you sit close enough to the screen, it's huge anyways. (I watch 1080p movies scaled down to fit my screen and it still looks great cause It's right in my face ;) )
The only difference/advantage you get from the 24" over 22" is actual screen real estate.. how much text you can show on your screen at a time for example.
My 22" samsung is literally as wide as the length of my g15 keyboard.
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
Thanks. Will games look ok at non-native resolutions, e.g 1280x1024 on 22 or 24" panels?
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
I recently bought a 22" LG (5 months ago) and it was huge at first, a big improvement over my old 19" Viewsonic, however now I wish I had gone for a 24".
Get a 24" is my advice :)
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
I'd be careful with a 24" with a 4830 for gaming.
Running games below the native resolution can look aweful. I guess it depends on what is more important to you...
Image Quality - Get a 22" to pair with your 4830
Size - Get a 24" and run it at 1680x1050
Both - Get a 24" and upgrade the gfx card
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
Has anyone used a 24" on a desktop and is it too large in that one has to turn head rather than eyes to view the contents of the screen?
What gfx would power the 24" sufficiently and do games, e.g. COD4 & Rome Total War support high resolutions?
Will have to buy new desk to fit this on it seems :)
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
Ive got a 24" Full hd dell and i run cod4 at 1300 x 800 or something (1 of the presets) and it looks absolutely fine. I have a crap graphics card though so yeah, im waiting to upgrade.
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
Bit of a dilemma then: lower screen size and keep graphics card or to go large and then buy a graphics card but probably 1GB memory which will eat into my 4GB addressable limitation on a 32bit OS..?
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
you'll probably never manage to utilise all that memory gaming anyway. PLus win7 64bit comes in at £60-£80, not bad for a future upgrade.
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
I have a 20" tft and am well happy with it in every way.

24" and run older games. You're clearly more into the applications than games, so the choice is clear.
It's also worth looking at the quality of the scaler inside the monitor. A decent TFT will not only do a half decent job of scaling lesser resolutions, but also provide the ability to display lesser resolutions without scaling (i.e. large black borders). This may be a way of handling more demanding games.
When my 22" CRT monitors die, I am definitely moving to at least 24" TFT. Although I won't actually get much extra resolution.. Hoping not to have to do that for a few years though.

Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
I have a 23" LG 1920x1080 and do a lot of work in two pages of Excel. It's great for that.
As the viewing angle in most games is 90 it doesn't matter much.
I did a review in the readers reviews sections, if you're interested.
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
Read a web site review of the lg 23 inch monitor which said it was good for office tasks but gaming wasn't so hot.
I like the look of the samsung montors but not the flimsy bases that people report wobbling. My current samsung tft base is very sturdy.
Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
I don't do games but for everything else the more screen space the better. I've got 2 22" Samsungs side by side giving me a screen with of about a metre. I've had this setup for a while and I am starting to think 2 x 24" would be nice.

Re: 22" or 24" TFT advice
Saw a 24" TN panelled 2ms unit (X243H) by Acer but would eIPS be a better way forward esp for gaming and no lag?
I have seen a 22" Dell 2209WA for about £185 which looks good but 24" would be ideal. Asus do a TN panelled 24" so getting close.

What he said with additions
For desktop/hd movies the 4830 will be fine for 24", issues will be higher res gaming.
1680x1050 is 22" 16:10 ratio
There's more and more 16:9 ratio monitors now (1920x1080 res for 22" 16:9) (ie slightly shorter but slightly wider) I dislike these
Good to films but I much prefur some more height for most other computer uses.
Almost all 24" are now 16:9 (1920x1080) which I seem to remember comes out at the same physical height as a 22" 16:10
24" 16:10 is 1920x1200 resolution
I seem to remember that the Samsung T220 is really nice
