Who Is Going To Be Buying A 5870 At Release?

    Hey guys,

Personally I'm gonna wait it out until the prices drop a bit. Perhaps also wait and see what nVidia's offerings are like before committing my cash.

But who is gonna take the plunge and splash their cash on launch?!

    Not at £280.
I'll be waiting till next summer.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Will probably get a 5850 unless the prices are stupid (read: over £200)

If budget OEM versions appear, like they did for the 4890, I might be tempted. Not straight away, prices drop pretty soon after release.

Re: Who Is Going To Be Buying A 5870 At Release?

again it all depends on pricing really, if its around £280 i will be very tempted. Im just about to replace my case, PSU, motherboard, fans and hard drive so a new GPU would fit in nicely.

Looking at the articles today the supplys are going to be very limited though... thats not a good sign for early pricing.

Looks like the short answer to this is: Dell.

Yep, that's my plan too - assuming it uses 2x 6pin connectors as that's all I have.

If not, then yeah the 5870 will be my choice.

Itching to get a nice new graphics card now to go with Win 7. Either will be a massive improvement over my 512Mb 8800GT tho.

If 4850s go below £50 before christmas then I'm getting another one and holding onto that crossfire setup until the *next* generation Seems to me like the most cost effective solution.

I'll pick one up when my copy of Win 7 arrives in October. Will give me plenty of time to decide wether to or not.

Only idiots or the very rich buy hardware on release day. Wait a couple of weeks to make sure it's not got any gaping flaws..

I'm tempted, but I want to wait for the price to drop, and I also want to make sure the Vista, Aero and multimonitor problem some people have with ATI is completely solved. I spend 99% of my time in apps and want a completely reliable system. Gaming is a nice bonus.

Re: Who Is Going To Be Buying A 5870 At Release?

NDA has expired now hasn't it? Seen it listed on a US site for $399 so it looks like they're going to price these right at the RRP.

Hopefully ebuyer, scan, etc. won't overcharge us too much but the pricing of the P55 boards doesn't make me too confident.
