    Oops!! I forgot about that!!

It could be a CPU issue as the Celeron has a lack of L2 cache which does not help its performance.

TBH,I would deactivate any AV and anti-spyware software when playing games to see if this helps things. Also defrag your hard disk too.

Massive. You should probably disconnect from the net though, just for safety's sake.

Leave Defender. Ensure the others are not running in the background.

How come having AV'es running can have such a big effect on your FPS?

I'm no programmer, but it's down to the constant scanning and monitoring of what your system is up to. It's quite comprehensive and creates quite a burden.

Live scanning - constantly checking files to see if they're okay or not, trying to spot threats before they occur.

For instance, if I try to patch ARMA II with Kaspersky running, it kills my system and I have to reboot.

    Re: Ati 4850

Do you think having AVG and IobitSecurity running at the same time and one other AV program

so 3x AV programs running all at once could have a big hit?

Using one has a measurable hit, using more than one is a big no-no. They start cross-checking each other, scanning each others' data and it all goes a bit berserk.

AVG free is a good antivirus solution, then you need a firewall (maybe ZoneAlarm) and antispyware. But definitely no more than one of each. Don't forget to disable windows firewall if you use a third-party solution.

What did you do in the end?

I did mean to post get a copy of Hijackthis and run it after a reboot to get a base boot up report.
Hijackthis is a very handy program for removeing stuff from running at boot.
