    NV40 3DMark 2003 score 12,535

I wonder who's flag I will be flying in a few months time. I cannot fault the performance of my 9800np and it's the first graphics card that I have owned capable of running AA modes. I can remember looking forward to AA on the Gforce3 but it was wrongly named back then and should have been called slideshow mode.

Correct me if I am wrong but AGPx8 vs PCI express isn't going to make a blind bit of difference to performance so long as the graphics card has plenty of ram and I expect 256mb will be standard. If I were to buy an AGPx8 card for my existing rig do you think that would that be a problem at a later date when I upgrade the mainboard. I am hoping AGP cards will be supported on the socket 939 mainboards for Athlon64 FX.

Fingers crossed the R420 will be every bit as good so I have a real choice to make.

just had a wee look elsewhere and found this, but would agree that until everythings out in the open it's all just picking numbers out the air.

It will be upgrade time soon.... My computers work like a family of brothers (or sisters) --- They get the hand-me-downs

My main PC will get the new fancy card, my 2nd gamer system will get my old FX5900, then I might put my old GF2GTS in either my work PC or some other computer...

I have an GF4MX420 in my work PC, I THINK the GF2 should be a little faster... I know the mx460 are about equivalent to a GF2ultra so Im not sure about the 420 vs GF2GTS

    I believe the clock speeds are 250/333 mx420 vs 200/366 GF2GTS

Work PC1 matrox millenium, Work PC2 geforce1, work PC3 geforce2, work PC4 geforce 3Ti200... can you see a pattern here. When I get to retirement age I will just hang a sign outside the door that reads "Computer Museum"

Just over double what my FX5950 Ultra gets.

    I was hoping for more.
Still, the real breaking point will be its retail cost.

    lol, true

The thing is you can get an A64 and motherboard for that money - an upgrade that most people would be better off with. I think you ought to have a serious machine before getting an R420/NV40 since the current cards are still not maxed.

Well, it'll be the same as it's always been, the rich early adopters will pay silly money for bragging rights, while the rest of us wait until until the price becomes more sensible further down the line.

Or we just wait until the R500 series comes out and pushes the 420 down to about £100 or so
