Updating Graphics Card Drivers gives me "no signal"

After a clean install of windows, my graphics card drivers will not update properly. I have the drivers installed which you get with the card as those are the only ones which work. Whether I try manually installing drivers, updating them view windows, or downloading them when prompted via Windows Update, I get the same result - the screen goes black and I get "No Siginal" forcing me to boot into safe mode and roll back the update.

Any idea what I can do to update the drivers, seeing as everything I have tried fails to work?

Re: Updating Graphics Card Drivers gives me "no signal"

You could find the files and directly drop in replacements from a newer driver package perhaps?

Sounds like a plan, but I have no idea how I would go about doing that .

Have you put on the servicepacks before applying the graphics drivers?

Did the graphics driver work on previous installations?

I did see this when going from Nvidia's 174.something to 180. I think I left things alone until about 186 when I did a clean of all Nvidia drivers, installed it again - it's been fine since.

Re: Updating Graphics Card Drivers gives me "no signal"

Yeah I had the latest driver installed before I formatted. I've got Vista SP2 installed and all up to date as far as I can see.

It's not a huge problem right now, as everything works pretty much the same as before, but I'd still rather have the latest drivers installed.

Right now I have 7.15.11.6222 installed, according to device manager.

    Bamp.

Any suggestions? Don't know why this won't work.

Have you tried plugging your monitor into the other output?

Re: Updating Graphics Card Drivers gives me "no signal"

Nah, still didn't work regardless of monitor and output it was connected to. Just got the usually "No signal" after trying 2 different monitors in both outputs. Hmm.

Re: Updating Graphics Card Drivers gives me "no signal"

    Things i would try:

    * Reseating the graphics card- make sure the copper connectors are clean and the power inputs secured firmly.
    * Removing graphics card, booting with onboard gfx or a temporary replacement, then putting new card back in.
    * Boot a linux live cd, it wont alter your hdd unless you explicitly ask it to and see if the card actually works with proper drivers
    * Start trying different drivers - Windows 2000 and onwards will work, go back to the earliest you can find.
    *Try installing windows 7
*Make sure you have the latest bios firmware
*Disconnect everything apart from your vista hdd, 1 stick of ram, and the card, see if that works.

These are just off the top of my head.

Two ways I can think of:

    1) In device manager you should be able to view the graphics card properties, including driver details. Do a search for that file.

    2) Extract the driver package and look for existing versions of files with the same name on your computer.
