    9800 Pro to 9800XT in 15 minutes.

You can overclock the 9800 Pro permanently by flashing the bios to a 9800XT, i far prefer this option than running third party programs in windows to maintain an overclock.

If you'd like a guide on how to do this you can download it off my website: here

There's a file that details the process and risks and gives advice on how to go about doing it safely.

Once the bios is flashed windows and all other programs will recognize the card as a 9800XT, the overdrive feature will not work for obvious reasons (9800 Pro's do not feature a heat sensor) but appart from that changing the stock cooler to a 9800XT's essentially means you have a 9800XT.

The life of the card will not be effected significantly enough for you to care, most graphics cards last an unlimited amount of time if looked after correctly and because you're an enthusiast there's literally a 100% chance you'll upgrade the card before the overclocking factor decreasing life even becomes an issue.

Hope this information is useful, gains i'd expect from moving to 9800XT clock speeds from 9800Pro speeds would be in the region of 5-15 fps well worth it for 15 minutes work, if at any stage you want to RMA the card for whatever reason i highly suggest you flash back to the original bios which you can most likely find in the link provided in "Instructions.rtf".

As for selling it as an XT, not only would this be immoral, it would be fraud. Most people here would know the difference anyway, and you could still simply look at the cores on the cards to check

I heard if you have an R350 core and flash it to XT bios you could get artifacts in some applications :O

I know that, I was just wondering all the same. Presumably there is a slight difference in the PCB or memory used between the Pro and XT?

Use radlinker, theres no point in flashing...
Also change the cooler first as a 9800pro cooler will not keep the card alive for long..

i have a rad 9800pro 128 sapphire and i have o/c'd it slightly but when i exit FPS games, the windows screen is black and everything comes back gradually. does anyone else's do this or is it just a system fault with card or mobo/cpu?

    runs sweet in games though.

Thats not your card its just your system flushing the graphics/system/pagefile memory as you exit the game

Nice idea and thanks for the info, but i'll stick with traditional overclocking to yield these results. Problem ive had before is cards just die for whatever reason, but if this happened you would be unable to clear you tracks before RMA'ing a card. Ok i cant imagine most if any supplier would check the eprom but direct to manufacturer returns they might.
