    5870 1Gb - Vendors

I'm looking at spoending some of my redundancy check on a 5870 in Jan/Feb. Give the state of supply and the rising prices I should probably order around now.

Is there any differences between the different manufacturers like XFX, Sapphire and Powercolour ? They all seem to be reference designs.

    Thx

I expect by January supply will be a bit better and prices might have come down a bit. Buy in Jan/Feb instead of now.

Besides, an extra month's wait probably won't kill you

Saw that linked earlier from a NV employee on this site. Doesn't add much.

    Re: 5870 1Gb - Vendors

I haven't seen much mention of anything non-reference yet - I imagine it'll take at least a month for a few to materialise.

At the moment everybody's busting to get any kind of a 5870 so there's no incentive to differentiate yet - once the reference cards are easy to get hold of, that's when I reckon we'll start seeing something else.

There is a Vapor-X that's seen a few reviews (inc Hexus) but it was very underwhelming if you ask me. Not much quieter, not much faster, and not much cooler. And it cost a fair bit more too.

Dabs told me something similar for a 5850, 13 days ago. It has been pushed back 3 times and the current expected date is 27th November. I may just cancel and wait for the 5870 to drop after xmas.

It has been pushed back again.

New Estimated Stock Availability : 08/12/2009

    I give up

    Re: 5870 1Gb - Vendors

You can't believe any of the ETA's currently being given out by a lot of stores...

Sadly they are being let down by the resellers so its definately a guessing game about stock. As mentioned you're best bet is to wait if you're not desperate both prices and availibility will be better in 2 months.

Unfortunately I got stiffed by a retailer with BAD warehouse stock control, so now have a half built PC waiting

Re: cards, all of the cards apart from the Vapour-X are reference designs, with a few announced overclocked versions (still with refernce coolers).

Don't forget that in Jan\Feb we will have the old 17.5% VAT back - so remember to factor that in.

    Cheers,

    Re: 5870 1Gb - Vendors

Good point on the VAT but thats small fry compared to the 20-30%+ markups that a lot of retailers are charging atm
