Mixing nvidia 300 and 200 series cards
Hey everybody!
I was wondering, given that 300 would support dx11 and 200 supports dx10, would i be able to mix the 300 and 200 series cards, either in an SLI or in a GPU+Physx card setup. Would this revert to dx 10?
Although the 300 series card is not out yet, what do you guys think?
Re: Mixing nvidia 300 and 200 series cards
If your only going to be runing PhysX on the, i assume, 200-series card then i don't think image quality would be affected.
Re: Mixing nvidia 300 and 200 series cards
I guess so, although I am hoping that the 300 series will have dual gpu cards, so I can quad sli. Although I may have to wait a bit for the prices to come down before doing so.

Am really not sure about mixing directx 10 and 11 but I remember when the 200 series came out, I had a hard time getting a 200 and a 8000 series running on the same machine. I eventually had to re-write the 200 driver inf to install the driver for the 8000 too.
later drivers came out that allowed for installing both of them, but this worked till they came out
Re: Mixing nvidia 300 and 200 series cards
Personally I doubt it'll work with SLI, it only really work with two of the same card.
Using one for physx, maybe, although with the nvidia drivers as they are I'm not sure how much hassle it would be to set it up.
Ether way we'll need to wait for the 300 series to come out (ignoreing that 310 as it's just a rebranded 210)
Re: Mixing nvidia 300 and 200 series cards
i run a DX10 GTX280 as video and a DX9 8800GTX as physics with no issue at all.
you will be fine in a physics setup, SLI will not work.

The 8800GTX is a DX10 card and IIRC the first one to be released to the market.

that's what i was thinking.. all of the 8xxx series cards support DX10.
Re: Mixing nvidia 300 and 200 series cards
Not having 2 nvidia graphics to test out I wasn't so sure how much hassle it is setting on up to just run physx.

It's no hassle at all to set up, just a check box to use the additional card as a PhysX card.
