    MSI Fx 5950 Ultra

Although its expensive, ive read some reviews its looking to be a good card. Now what I would like to know is where i can get this card from retail?
Im wondering if pc world or anywhere like that stock it, but atm im not in the posession of a credit card so i cant buy it off the net.
If anyone does happen to spot this card at a retail store, could they give me a heads up of roughly how much it is and where it was seen. Thanks

Not only that m8 but I am pretty sure most online companies will accomodate you sending a cheque.

Give a few a call and find out.

A shop will sell this at very inflated price- you stand to lose a lot of cash. The most high end card i have seen on sale is a connect 3d 9800 for £200 in pc world. No shop like dixons/pc world etc is going to sell high end kit like a 5950

Your best bet is probably trying an independant computing store and maybe asking them how much it would be to order one in.

If you really can't wait a month, then it might be a good idea to get something fairly cheap (under £100) that can run all the current games reasonably well (e.g. a 9600)and then get one of the new generation cards when they come out, or a current top-end card at a much lower price than they are now.

Its really not a good idea to buy a 5950 or a 9800xt right now with the prices they are. If you can hold out until the nest gen cards hit the shelves then you could make some good savings- if your desperate then a £13-40 9800pro is probably the best bet.

If you want to go nvidia then you could buy a decent 5900 that could be modded to a 5950 with a bios flash

Try a 9600xt they are only lik £110 now. Worth a thought some of my mates have them and they will play all the new games. Struggle with far cry a bit though lol.

And ive just purchased that very game...
Nvidia cards seem to do very well in games from what i see, despite the reviews posted on some sites.
I have a Geforce FX 5600 XT 256mb yet it stil handles far cry well, yet ATI cards even the higher end mid range 9600XT seem to be slopping a bit

If you think that nVidia cards do very well, then you should also look at some of the ATi cards.

Also, the 9600XT should run Far Cry well from everything that I've read. Some people like to turn the AA and AF up, and that's when most cards start to struggle. My old MX400 did alright up until I got rid of it - it ran UT2003 at 1024x768 well enough.

I don't touch Anti Aliasing and Ansiphoric Filtering or whatever they're called... as ive never missed out using them before, i dont think I'll die without them now. When it comes to pure framerates on bare settings without AA or AF, nvidia cards seem to have the upper hand... a 9800XT does look appealing tho..

9800xt's and 5950's are not very good buys right now mate. Your paying over the odds for very little performance gain. In ati's case the 9800xt offers olny an 8% gain from a pro so you may be better off saving some cash.

If you must have the best of the current crop of cards then wait for the nest gen ones to launch and the prices of xt's 5950's will come down
