Apparently the new 6800 needs two seperate leads going to it's twin molex connectors. They say not too use a Y lead (which makes sense considering they put two molex cons onboard) but surely the PSU does not have seperate circuits for each lead. Ie each lead's wires are connected to the same voltage rails inside the PSU. In whcih case why two seperate leads?
Surely this cant be because of the power limitations of the cable. Are they saying the cable would possibly melt if you used a Y lead?
no, they're saying that one molex line simply cannot provide sufficient juice - power needs to be uncontended, I'd guess.
One molex connector is plenty (30A at 12v is a LOT! 30A at 5v is also a lot, cards wont take that much!) and if the next card i get (which will be an ati) has one of them on it ill unsodler the second and join the two together if there not conencted on the pcb.
what I think *WILL* cause a lot of problems is the start up current these cards will require as when pc turns on everything wants a lot more than when its already running - could cause problems like with 9800 cards in shuttles (though simple 2 second time delay circuit fixes that)
ATi's R420 will very likely have two molex connectors aswell.

Is there any plan to increase the power output to cards from mobo's with the new PCI-X VGA slot ? Or is PSU connections to all future VGA cards ineviatable ?

Um, the 9000Pro doesn't need extra power connectors anyway.
It's not a case of power as such, more a case of current. The motherboards can only handle so much amperage down those little copper tracks of theirs, so they need nice AWG24 wires to carry some of the load.
I said 9000Pro equivalent.
Basicly the low level graphics section of the next generation of cards
I think I read the PCI-X will only require one connector.

These new cards already cot a fair bit before you factor in the cost of the new psu that many people will need.
