Best Value GFX card sub £75

Hey guys, just joined hexus and been away from the PC gaming world for 2 years now! Went to the dark side of console gaming (apologies i let myself down i know lol) getting back into things now and building a system back up :D. Question is which way to go as far as graphics card? I spent about 3 hours last night looking at articles on the subject and got a few ideas....wondered what the opinion would be on here? Also looked at eBay to see if i could get an 'older' but still well performing card, i don't expect the earth but hopefully a solid card, advice?

Probs looking @ 1280*720 on my 22"....

PC Will be AMD triple or quad core...2gb or 4gb ddr3 (if i only start with 2gb then will move to 4gb within a few months)

Asus board M4A77TD PRO 770 Socket AM3 8 channel audio ATX

Whats the make of the psu? And is there any particular game or types of games you are planning to play?

well with that spec, you should be getting a decent GPU to go with it.
i'd recommend trying to find a good deal on a 4850 or a 4870 (both ATI cards). they're still very good cards.
is 1280x720 your native resolution on a 22" monitor?
i'd expect 1680 x 1050 on such a monitor tbh.

Will look to play 'chart' titles but obviously i don't expect to play on full detail/res...

cool thanks dude, they still solid then, that's good news :D

tbh i haven't used it yet but i believe the native res will be that kinda ball park, just thought i'd run the games at a lower res to allow better performance?

On eBay you can get 8800GTs for around £50-60 which are still rather good. 9600GT would work at 1680*1050 resolutions too buy any higher and a 8800GT is better. 9600GT go for around £50 on eBay.

If you manage to come across a 4870 for under £75 on eBay then go for it! They're worth about £90ish though. Just under the 4870 but better than the 8800GT is the 4850 which is around £60 on eBay.

For a brand new card a 9800GT is most likely going to fit your budget well at ~£69.

To be honest with any of these cards, at 1680*1050, most games will run quite smoothly with max settings and close to max AA. (Excluding Crysis obviously)

a 4850 will run almost everything at full res and full settings at a decent FPS atm.
might have to give up a little bit of eye candy or AA or something, but for a £75 budget they're a very good card if you can find the right deal.

A brand new 8800GT is most likely impossible to find nowadays hence I said if he wanted a brand new card from a retailer then he should go for that.

A brand new 4770 for £50 delivered. To be honest I want to get this myself as I just ordered a DFI P45 from Scan's Today only. However I have no money so I'll pass it on :( This is better than a 8800GT/9800GT IMO but not as good as a 4870. I personally think it\'s better than a 4850 as performance is very similar but it runs A LOT cooler.

A nice summary of cards mate ta, am fairly happy to be patient for a few days/weeks to get the best bits so may opt for eBay...will see what pop's up!

There's also a 8800GT 1GB edition but is not boxed or anything for £55 inc P&P on eBay too:

Bought and paid for! Seem's a solid card indeed so snapped it up...thank's for the advice lads, i feel it will serve my needs nicely :D btw what's the deal with 1gb card's now? See so many around and can't help think 1gb is a little less important than 512 and a better gpu?

You won't really need 1GB unless you're gaming on really high resolutions if I understand correctly.
