    Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

I personally had been waiting for fermi before deciding to upgrade my graphics card as i wanted to compare between ati & Nvidia.

But with Nvidia seeming to say nothing about it and no release dates i've decided that if it's not out (or within a week) i'm going to get a ati 5850 for my new build once i've got the funds.

Shame because it does seem like it's going to be a powerful card but...

Re: Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

For me, it was taking far too long. I'd been wanting a new card for a very long time - the 8800 GTS 320 was just too slow, so there was no way I was waiting yet another 4-5 months... probably only to find out that it's made no difference anyway.

nVidia have obviously got a lot of money to recoup on Fermi, so I don't think for a second that they're going to come in and really smash ATI's prices into obivion. It'll probably be slightly faster than it's ATI equivalents with physx and cuda, and of course the pricetag to match.

Re: Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

Still waiting here. The 4890 will do fine until the Summer. By then, hopefully, there will be increased supply of Ati parts and the competition may lower some prices.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

In relation to the thread title - who isn't ?

I believe Fermi was shown off, or atleast part of it, at CES and it has its own take on ATI's Eyefinity.
Nvidia also mentioned there still targetting a march launch. The article might of been on anandtech, cant remember :\

Either way if it is march theyre launching i wouldn't think that was a problem for most as thats when the next big pc game comes out in the form of BF:BC2 which supports DX9,10, and 11.

I will probably only upgrade this year if Crysis 2 comes out this. Anyway I will probably get an HD5770 or whatever Nvidia has in a similar price range.

Still waiting for a game that causes me to *need* a new card - tbh the 280 (at stock) handles everything just fine at 2052x1148

Re: Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

I'm curious but I dont think I will upgrade unless it significantly more powerful then my 4870X2 which is about on par with a 5870.

Also the price is a key factor for me, I learnt long time ago that I would never pay any more then £150 for a graphics card.

Re: Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

Interested to see what they have but starting to think that Fermi will be constantly trumped by AMD...leaving nVidia to go back to the drawing board and consider a different approach for the following generation to get themselves back on track........mainly due to the fact that by the time Fermi hits, AMD will have had 3-4 months (if not more) to refine and plan changes to the 5xxx series.

Patiently waiting (yeah right!) to see what happens!

Not me. After seeing Nvidia's disgraceful behaviour with PhysX, I'm definitely going ATI on my next upgrade, provided their drivers are ok.

Re: Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

    NVIDIA rarely releasing drivers.
NVIDIA being very late to the party.
NVIDIA stopping PhysX working if you have an ATI card.
ATI's cards being far cheaper than NVIDIA's will be.
    NVIDIA generally being rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish.

Just some of the reasons why I won't be getting a Fermi card when they're out.

In answer to the thread im waiting for it out of interest, but as with DX10, probably wont be worth owning a DX11 card till 2011 as it takes so long to get the titles out there.... So it will be watching interest as opposed to purchasing for me..

Re: Who's waiting for Nvidia Fermi

TBH,it would not surprise me if the GF100 or whatever the top end Fermi model is called is basically as powerful or even 10% ahead of a single GTX295 if it had perfect scaling and more RAM.

You only have to look at 9800GX2 and the GTX285 for example. The GTX285 tends to beat the 9800GX2 even though it has less shaders. However the GTX285 has more memory bandwidth. Basically the move from the GTX285 to the top end Fermi( if the latter has 512 shaders) looks around the same or perhaps a bit better.

The important factor is what company has the fastest graphics cards under £200 or thereabouts not necessarily the company with the fastest graphics card out there as the sub £200 market probably makes up a large percentage of consumer graphics cards sales.

Touted to be entering production 3rd week of Feb http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/live-...-february.html

And it's looking like Nvidia is kicking XFX in the face for joining ATi and removing them from their list of approved manufacturers for European operation and won't be included in the Fermi announcement. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=243009 (however this is contrary: http://www.nordichardware.com/news,10551.html)
It's a pity if the link saying that they are sticking by them is true, i thought we might finally see the back of them

All speculation at the minute of course... But sounds about right for the green team...
