    Cooling Graphics Card

I am thinking about buying a better cooler for my graphics card (Sapphire Radeon 9600) since the one at the moment is only a heatsink with no fan. I was thinking of getting the Vantec Iceberq. So:

    1) Should I get a Vantec Iceberq? (I'm on a low budget, as always)
    2) If I do get a Vantec Iceberq, should I get the Copper Iceberq or the Iceberq 4?
    3) How difficult are they to put on?
    4) I read that you need to take the shim off the graphics card so that there is contact between the core and the heatsink. Is that right?
    5) Is it worth changing the cooler on the graphics card at all?

    Thanks

    Mike

I take it you've got a Radeon ? Judging by the sig yes. If this is the case id get an Arctic VGA Silencer, much better and probably cooler too.

They arent very difficult you just got to be careful when removing the old one, squeeze the two pins on the back of the card and the heatsink can be fulled off.

Id advise you dont take the shim off, wont make a vast difference with cooling.

Yeah, I had the iceberq and it wasn't that good. I fitted it to a Creative Ti 4600 and it turned out to be louder than my standard heatsink and the temp had risen by about 5 degrees. As Darkmatter said an Arctic VGA silencer would be better.

Anything by Vantec is good, I have a Vantec PCI card with 2 70mm fans on it. I placed it directly under my 9600XT. It keeps it at a cool 32 c

So where would I get one from? And what are the temperatures like without the PCI card?

£6 + shipping on ebuyer for the arctic cooler - might be worth buying some other stuff at the same time too..

I believe the standard Arctic VGA Silencer doesnt fit the 9600's. You need the Rev 3, Check Here would also suggest you check out the manufacturers website to confirm.

Dont bother with vantec iceberg coolers as they are the same as the stock coolers with a louder fan but made of copper. Artic cooling ones seem to be good and IIRC any revision of them only needs a corner cut off to fit your card, but Id check before buying one or try and get the latest one.
If it was made of copper, the artic cooling one would be a lot better...

been running the Arctic Cooling ATI 2 (9600 Series) VGA Silencer (HS-003-AR) from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...c_Cooling.html for about a year with not heat issues at all.
remember to get your paste you will need to because the copper sits on ya chips.

Hell no. It's alright for a chipset, i wouldn't stick one on a 9600. Is it really worth it?
