People have been telling me to get a 24" but i thought to myself it would be better to get a better quality 22' than a 24" for the same price.
But i really don't have the slightest clue what to look for with monitor shopping so I'm coming to you guys again :D

The difference is 22 will be 1920x1080, and 24 will be 1920x1200. I've got a 1920x1080 panel in front of me at the moment for work, which cost around £110 - it's obviously a TN panel, so not renowned for colour accuracy and image quality like an IPS or PVA monitor, but this is for office use, so not an issue.
I find it a bit of a stupid size, when I got it out of the box I almost laughed because it looks so insanely widescreen - I would far prefer one with 1200 vertical resolution if I was getting on for home, but you pay a serious premium for those extra 120 pixels (if anyone mentions that I'm wrong, and it's actually 120*1920, I will kill you).
At the moment looking purely at Scan
22" TN 1920x1080 - £120
22" IPS 1920x1080 - £220
24" TN 1920x1200 - £200
24" IPS 1920x1200 -£450
That's not exact, I'm just trying to give you a vague idea of the options - once you've picked one of those, I imagine people could give you some more specific models and options.
So you could probably get a better quality 22" panel for the same price as a lower quality 24" panel, but they'll both come in way over budget.

The area of spending i am looking for is really £150-£155 but because i would prefer quality over size then i would be happy with a better 22" than a bigger but rubbish 24".
I have seen that a lot of people are quite anal about there monitors, i just want one that is good quality, looks good, has DVI although that isn't a must.
As I said then, I'd imagine you're looking at a TN 22"... then we're talking about a quality make and model.
If it was me personally, I'd get something like a Samsung P2270 at that price range (although I'm not a fan of glossy PC monitors, always prefer standard black bezel), but then I like Samsung monitors quite a lot, along with Dell. Don't know why, I just do :p
To save a bit of money, you could go for an Iiyama, no experience with them though, or a Viewsonic... I wouldn't touch a Viewsonic with a bargepole, but that's a personal opinion - a lot of other people like them.
There are a few LG monitors at around £140 on eBuyer as well, similar specification to the Samsung. They're meant to be very good as well, IIRC LG supply massive numbers of panels to other companies to be turned into monitors, so they know their stuff.
I have a 19" 4:3 Iiyama (Sony rebranded IIRC) with inbuilt speakers. The speakers make the world's most annoying noise whether they're on or off.Quote:

Everyone seems to think that it's a good quality TN panel that provides good value for money. Let's see what the Cat says, but I'd put a few quid that he recommends you stretch the budget to one of the new S-IPS panels which are at a similar price point.
How about spending some of the budget on a better motherboard so you can overclock your CPU a bit more:

One thing to consider (in regards to the whole 24in vs 22in debate) is whether or not you game a lot, and if thats one of your priorities? I only say that because I'm pretty sure that all LCD moitors look like ass when not at native, so you really want to be able to game at native res, and 24in has a fair few more pixels to push than 22in. You have a 4850 too and thought that should be fine for most games, it may age quicker, if you get what I mean, because of the high res
Personally, I have a 24" though i think that I could have lived with a 22" which would make my 8800 GTS look a little less old, although its only really crysis and maybe GTAIV that chug at native.
But of course this is only relavant is you havent decided on size yet.
If I stuck a game at the resolution of a native 22" res then I should be able to see if it will be OK or not, correct?
So long as your screen supports that resolution now, then yes. If it doesn't, the picture just won't display.
I currently use a 1680X1050 monitor although it has a P-MVA panel AFAIK. An IPS panel is nicer than a TN panel IMHO but still if you are not image editing or doing graphics work it maybe not be such an issue.
An HD4850 512MB will play most games well at 1680X1050 but I am not so sure at 1920X1080 though.
I would certainly look at one of the newer LED backlight panels.
