    9700 Pro: Failing, presumed dead

OK, fitted an arctic cooler to my 9700 Pro today, only to put it back in my AGP slot and no boot - everything powers on, but no beeps - reseated the card several times, given it uncontended power connection from two quality supplies (one at a time obviously) and still nothing.

Removing card from slot gives the nice single beep when PC is turned on.

I've managed to break this thing getting those pushpins off...or have I missed something?

Have you tried reseting the CMOS at all?
Try booting with just 1 stick of RAM, CPU and nothing else (no hard drives, optical drives, PCI cards etc)
    Else im out...

    Hope it works.

Did you scrape the PCB or break any contacts when doing it?

Try refitting the artic cooler, if that doesnt work try the retail cooler again.... I remember the first time I fitted my old zalman heatpipe. Nothing came up first time, so i refitted and it worked fine after that!

ok...have refitted the cooler again, tried the original heatsink and fan, reset cmos, pulled out cables from every place known to mankind, and it's still not working.

I think it's definitely dead, but thanks for the help guys - we've certainly made sure

yeah, it was definitely fine first time - decent contact with the GPU surface - must just have scraped something somewhere :-( ...just wish I could actually see where, goddamn microcircuitry!

tried with/without dvi/vga cables - would not having a cable actually stop a post though?

Heh - you win some you lose some - this is the first thing I've ever broken out of warranty and it probably won't be the last, good to get it out of the way I suppose - was a good enough card at stock - didn't need to touch it for overclocking, so I'll never know if it was a miracle worker or not - doubt it though, hehe
