Intel own the biggest share of the market don't they.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
It depends on how you define the market.
The for number of graphics adapters produced, then yes undoubtedly. But if you look at the discreet graphics on their own, then no, Intel don't get a look in. I would say the market is large enough to count it like that.
It's like with CD sales, if compilation albums were counted the same way as artist albums, the top 10 would be dominated by "Now 294", "The best accoustic album in the world 81" and "You hate all these tracks, but your mum loves them volume 30".
even intel dont think intel are a good candidate at the moment. hence the "nope, lets develop this some more" of larabee. id prefer gpu only people rather than "the monster" as well tbh
in a perfect world powervr would make a new kyro style card - simple but clever, and 3dfx would magic there way back into existance and make a modern voodoo 5 6000 - how many relatively small cores can you get working on one card. that would make things more fun

They used to make the best 3d pro card, heck the original geforce was a cut down 3DLabs glint chip that nvidia lisenced off 3DLabs.

I think Intel being where its at currently with integrated is better than it being 'competitive' for the discreet market, otherwise we and ATI/Nvidia are screwed.

Matrox made some interesting innovation back in the day, though 3D wise, they always seemed to lack some muscle compared to the competition (don't think they ever held the performance crown). I was also quite unimpressed by how long it took them to release a full OpenGL drive for the G200.
I never bought anything from PowerVR, but had they carried on what they were doing, I probably would've. I was looking forward to a Kyro III.
As for S3, I don't think I ever had anything other than the S3 Virge on an early laptop. Like Matrox and ATI at the time, they kept getting overshadowed by faster cards. Which is probably why no one has really bothered taking on nVidia/AMD for discrete gaming graphics. Not much room for third place in this market it would seem.

If they get the linux drivers and windows7 drivers running well, with cheap affordable HD decoding on the card then they'd have a good use for HTPC, especially if they can be made cool/quiet etc.
VIA already have the tech to do it iirc with the supporting chips they put on their miniITX boards, though whether they're HDcapable I don't know.
