New 24inch monitor decisions
Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a 24inch monitor for my pc , main usage will be gaming and internet browsing .
I was planning on one that is HDCP compliant and works with a good set up straight from the box as I do not plan to buy any calibration tools.
I would like it to be an 1920 x 1200 and really that is about as far as I got. I was looking at the HP LP2475W but at nearly £450 was wondering whether this is slightly an overkill for my needs.
So to sum up is there a good 24 inch monitor in the £200 - £400 ish price range that I ought to be looking at ?
Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
Basically, irrespective of manufacturer...
£250 - TN panel with poor viewing angles, poor colour reproduction. Good value though, I intend to buy one myself to save money.
I would look at a Samsung 2443BW in this bracket.
£450 - IPS/PVA panel with good viewing angles, professional grade colour reproduction. More expensive though.
I would recommend the LP2475W you were looking at in this bracket, or alternatively something like a Dell U2410.
Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
The LP2475W was available for around £360 a few months ago as HP were doing a discount code and Quidco were doing cashback on purchases from the HP webiste.
I would also look at the ZR24W too which is replacing the HP2475W:

Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
Dell have a new technique which apparently means PVA quality but at TN Prices. CustomPC actually thought it was a pva panel! It's super HD resolution (2144x1158 or something) and is 23". Apparently it's awesome.

Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
The 2309WA is still a 6 bit panel though. OTH,it would probably be fine for non-colour critical applications.
Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
The one I pointed out is the SP2309W, I'm not sure which you were reffering to cat, do tell if I'm being blind and stupid :D

Sorry I meant that one!! :embarrassed:
It looks a nice monitor but it would be nice if more 8 bit monitors were released below £200.
Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
Thanks for the replies all I am veering towards either the Samsung 2443BW or the Dell Dell sp2309w which both seem to be less damage on my wallet ( well debit card anyway) . Samsung i am familiar with as my monitor at the moment is an 226BW which I have been very happy with .Dell actually supplied my last but one pc which also I was reasonably happy with so not sure really which of these two to go with.
The thing about the Dell monitor is that I really do not need a built in webcam and I assume it will show gaming resolutions of 1920x1200?
Any other monitors I ought to check out or which one of these two will be best for gaming ? ( I would like rich colours and clarity of text )

Is that DELL monitor not the same panel as this 170 quid Samsung model?

This seems to be a cracking buy;

Or there's the new 23.6" 120Hz monitors from Acer and Alienware that seem to be getting good reviews. Or have you decided to go for sub-£200 monitors now?

That is a good idea, I am not very technical but can certainly write about about my views and impressions , would be my fourth LCD monitor so hoping I have really "future proofed" myself with this one :)

Has got good reviews and has a good price.... im looking at getting one
(Bah i see you've already got one.... o well for other people looking at this they may want to know about this one)
Re: New 24inch monitor decisions
Actually the whole process of buying the monitor has got a little more tricky , there is more info over at the Aria PC forums under the posting "Dell won't honour Warranty" , as mine is arriving tomorrow I am still a little worried.
