LCD TV or PC LCD monitor?
My question is how come pc monitors are more expensive when comparing to a lcd tv with teh same screen size?
does pc monitors have faster response times? better contrast? i must admit, my warfdale 32inch 720p does have better clarity and colour than my legendary Dell 22inch (forgot the model but it was a flagship one when it first came out).
Lets look at two similar priced monitors:
below is the dell pc 24 inch monitor with hdmi, dvi etc etc built in Scan.co.uk: 24" Dell U2410 Ultrasharp Widescreen LCD flat panel monitor, IPS panel
Now look at the tv version equivalent Scan.co.uk: 32" Sanyo CE32FD90-B, HD 1080P, 1920x1080 Widescreen, 4xHDMI LCD TV inc Freeview inc PC/USB ports
If a lcd tv is as good as a pc monitor and you are happy with gaming at 1080p max resolution then why bother buying a 24inch pc monitor when you can buy a 32 inch?:O_o1:
Re: LCD TV or PC LCD monitor?
I think you need to compare quality levels rather than price.
Digimate 23" 1080p monitor, £110: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169049
Digimate 22" 1080p TV with DVD player, £160: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167724
Most people, for computer use, would choose the cheapest at that quality level. For something like student use, the extra 50 quid for more inputs & easy DVD playing could be a bargain though.
Besides, most of us can't fit a 32" monitor on their desk :D
Re: LCD TV or PC LCD monitor?
That monitor is a IPS panel, far superior to TN for quality, night and day.
If you compare my monitor the samsung syncmaster 2233SN, was £115, my tv is the P2270HD, paid 180 for tv and the picture quality on both is superb, same panel i think.

What dell monitor is that?
Re: LCD TV or PC LCD monitor?
Text on a 32" TV @1080p would be quite blocky and hideous. Personally, at desktop viewing ranges, 1080p or similar resolution would only be acceptable (personally opinion) up to 24", maybe 26" at a stretch. If all you do is game on your PC then a TV as a monitor substitute might be okay. To simplify it, I'd still use a 24" monitor @1080p over a 30"+ @1080p purely due to pixel size/density.
Re: LCD TV or PC LCD monitor?
Yea i hear ya. Too bad there is not a good IPS 24inch monitor out their at the moment as many models contain bad tinting issues due to the panels beiing made by LG :(

Err, that's not what I consider "okay" for text viewing :). Sure, it's readable and certainly not bad on the TV scale but just no where near what I'd consider usable on a daily basis. Do I occasionally surf on my HTPC + TV? Sure, but never for a period exceeding a few minutes.
Unless it's the camera, the text looks like it was printed at low resolution on a laser printer using the toner save option. Don't take this as being critical of your TV or set up, my 46" LCD has a similar look. I've yet to see a TV do a good job of rendering text from a PC HDMI source. Probably more an issue of the underlying OS and drivers in how they render the image/text.
