    What would run faster 5970 vs 5870 crossfire PCI-E x8 ?

    Which would run faster out of a 5970 or 2 x 5870 in corssfire on a i5 motherboard running at x8 ?

hmm i think it would be the 5970 plus it would take up less space and would cost around the same

I would go for the 5870s. But that's just me. Have a feeling it would be slightly more powerful but that has absolutely no factual basis at all.

    They're PCI-E 2 right? So effectively a PCI 1 @ x16.

I'd say the 2x 5870s would be faster.

    Re: What would run faster 5970 vs 5870 crossfire PCI-E x8 ?

I'd generally say 2x5870 in Crossfire will be faster than a single 5970, as they are the same GPU as in the 5970 but clocked higher. However, you've got the usual provisos of multiple GPU performance not always scaling, and the fact that 2x5870 requires more power than a single 5970. Also, some manufacturers are going to release custom 5970s with 4GB RAM and clocked at 5870 speeds - although these will probably be quite a bit more expensive than a "normal" 5970...

However, you'll struggle to max out a single 5870 in most games at most resolutions, so the question you should really ask yourself is will the extra expense of a 5970 / an extra 5870 over the cost of a single 5870 bring you a worthwhile performance gain...?

I think the higher clocks on the 2x5870 will make make up for any potential hit from 2x8pcie.

However going 5970 provides the future option of 2x5970

Im actually really tempted to try this, although i get the same effect by saying to the ladies all the drinks on me... its cheaper than the cpu's or gpu's .
