Question Anyone got a high end nvidia card and the game Dead Space available?

Anyone got a high end nvidia card and the game Dead Space available?

Was wondering if it's just ATI that has the horizontal lines of light flashing after the bit at the very start of the game after you open the very first previously locked door then go through the corridor? I think it's meant to be lights flashing like strobing, but for me it's horizontal lines. I couldn't get a screenshot of it so not sure what it is.

ATI Radeon 5870 running at 1920x1440 res 60hz on 19" g90 fb-4 professional CRT monitor, with all the ingame graphics settings put to high/maximum (checked with the custom settings too) and all graphics acceleration options in the driver's catalyst control panel enabled too.

Game's VSYNC turned off, but with VSYNC added by Rivatuner's D3D overrider program instead ( via this fix for slow mouse movement which seems to happen for almost any PC with vsync on, as some kind of bad translation from the console port or something: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=2890810 )

Actually I'd be interested if anyone has a 5870 they can try it out on too to make sure it's not just my PC

Perfectonist: I've seen this written somewhere else online but I can't find it....

    I don't thnk it's your pc.

What yuo could do is open Catalyst Control Panel, choose the ATI Overdrive drop down and then click TEST CUSTOM CLOCKS even if you've not overclocked it.. to make sure the card is stable?

Not sure where it's getting that fan % from, the system is watercooled as per my sig, *there is no GPU fan!* - doesn't seem to match up with any of the fan % bars for the 4 system fans on it (3 top 1 back at radiator 120mm scythe gentle typhoons, Corsair 800D case) that I'm getting on aquaero but the only bar close to 21% as catalyst control center says is the HDD fan which aquaero says is 26% (top rad fan 41%, rear rad fan 40%, lower intake fan 37%):

might make sense to move this to the scan forum actually since what Zak said about the Catalyst control center I need some kind of response on whether it's ok to mess with it under Scan's warranty or not really first :/

(P.S. I have not changed any of the Aquaero's settings myself either those are what Scan set it to - got the system just before Februrary it's very new)

    I remember this...

My friend had he same issue with the 4850 GFX card back when we got the game just after it was released.

    I can't quite remember...but...

try turned off vsync in-game and forcing v-sync via the CCC.

If it's not V-sync then it might have been the Anti-Aliasing (ie switching it off in-game and turning it on via CCC). I definitely remember this issue though and definitely remember it was nothing to do with hardware failure, just some messed up game settings.

yeah, I already said "all graphics acceleration options in the driver's catalyst control panel enabled (Vsync is one of those when you do "view all" on 3D graphics options under the 3D tab) and that I had turned VSYNC off ingame in my first post

I'll try uninstalling rivatuner/d3doverrider and see if that makes any diff, I think you actually need it to "lock" vsync on though from what I read in that thread I linked in the first post the game ignores it anyway without using d3doverrider

Re: Anyone got a high end nvidia card and the game Dead Space available?

More googling (how I found the tip about rivatuner in my first post originally) and I found someone describing exactly the same problem as me with an nvidia card (the version number is an nvidia one when you google it):
    http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost.php?p=1335660752
with driver 180.42 and AA there is an annoying bug when there are flashing lights or moving lights (dynamic lighting?) the screen gets horizontal lines across the whole screen it kinda looks like screen tearing, but it isn't and it's way more annoying than screen tearing because the lineas appear on the whole screen about 1" apart.
so it's definitely not the make of card that matters.

edit: Without D3DOverrider forcing it's own VSYNC, the problem is definitely there, the lines come back whenever lights are flashing (like at the starting corridor I mentioned - it's impossible to take a screenshot of it though, it looks fine in screenshots [ using FRAPS ] weirdly). When I reinstalled Rivatuner (with which D3DOverrider comes with) the big black horizontal lines are gone *as long as I keep the D3DOverrider program running in the background when I play the game*, it's not enough to set the options like with Rivatuner, I tested and closing the program after having changed the settings makes the scan lines come back even with it installed. The problem before was I thought it worked the same as rivatuner

OK so to summarise: Fix from the forum post I found and linked in the first post works, just you have to have Rivatuner's D3DOverrider.exe (in your RivaTuner\Tools\D3DOverrider\ folder) open and running in the background every time you play, add Dead Space.exe from your game's folder to it's application list, select it in the list then click Force VSYNC ON (so it's blue highlighted) along with Force Triple Buffering and Application Detection Level Medium... (with the game's own crappy version of VSYNC which slows down the mouse to hell (google dead space mouse lag, seems to happen to all PCs) turned off ingame) I turned the "start with windows" option on and the option I found in advanced options to start minimised...

Pretty ridiculous that seems you need another program running at all times just to fix this game tho... I guess another screwup from porting from inferior console integrated graphics :/ Like the mouse lag when you have the game's vsync on that everybody seems to get, and how the 3D map in the game moves in big jerks when you use the arrow keys to rotate but less if you tap it really lightly but in a way that's so fine it's impossible to scroll it smoothly like it's been designed for high sensitivity rotating with a joystick [or mouse, but that wouldn't make sense] - no option for less scroll sensitivity for the keyboard either (like you get in the options in PC strategy games)

Glad I made this post, it's useful for my own reference too ha. I think I'll install Dead Space again tonight, ridiculous the amount of hoops you have to jump through to get the lighting flickering to fix itself... Hope this (THE LAST POST, ABOVE THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR) comes in useful for anyone else that plans to replay the game before Dead Space 2 to fix the ATI AMD radeon lighting issues flickering flicker flashing bug bugs flash bugs flickering flicker vsync black lines line

Not at home to do any major testing but I know I played several hours of Dead Space at the weekend on my 5870 card and didn't have an issue at all. No tearing, flashing or lines etc.
