    Akasa Vortexx Neo issues!

The fan has become progressively noisier and noisier over the last few months. It now makes a continuous rattling noise! I bought it 20 months ago for around £20 from Scan and TBH this is very disappointing indeed as my VF900 is still going strong and is well over three years old.

Is there any way of reducing this rattling noise(oil or grease) or is this noise due to the bearings going kaput?

Same has happened to me and a colleague bought one at the same time.

Frankly, given the cost, I was happy to buy another (presuming that I just had a faulty fan, which happens, obviously), but it since seems to be a lot more widespread than I thought.

Sounds like the bareing is going

One major issue with sleeve bareings that's over looked, is that they are far more suseptable to damage from knocks, being shaken around and genreal rough handling.

You could get a replacement blower or even mod another fan onto it

It is in a Shuttle SFF PC though! The Vortexx Neo is only the aftermarket cooler of its type I can see for sale in the UK.

The cooler is on an HD4830:

    Re: Akasa Vortexx Neo issues!

I've just installed my replacement Neo today. The previous one worked OK when I took it off the fan controller, but was noisy and it was running around 15c hotter than it was, so was obviously rotating slower.

Have to say that removing the previous Neo wasn't as easy as normal - it plain refused to come away and it seemed to be the RAM pads which were sticking, which was unexpected as they aren't especially sticky when they're first installed. A blast with a hair-dryer for a few minutes and as much twisting as the bolts allowed did the track though.

It seems it has translocated itself to this thread:

I do have the old dual slot cooler from my HD3870 too so it maybe worth a muck around with the fan.

I have one lying around that hardly got used but has lost its thermal pads, if you paid postage I could send it to you.
