What is the best graphics card to get for between £50-60??

    Hi,

Im looking for a graphics card for around £50-60 and would like to know what people think is the best one for that money. I used to game on COD but dont really do it now however i would like a card good enough to play it again if i decide to.

I did have a BFG Nvidia geforce 8800 GT 512mb Card but it has died on me and i cannot afford another one like it.

    Thanks

The GT240 graphics cards available for that price are the GDDR3 versions. TBH, it is going to be had to get a card that can match an 8800GT in the £50 to £60 price range which is still easily available.

What PSU does your PC have ATM?

This HD4770 512MB would be faster than your 9800GT and is within your budget:

However it is out of stock ATM.

The other alternative would be to look at an HD4670 GDDR3 although this is slower than a 9800GT.

Re: What is the best graphics card to get for between £50-60??

ive got a 600w psu OC i think. I built the comp couple of yrs ago.

Would DDR3 work in my DDR2 motherboard? I got a republic of gamers crosshair motherboard.

Its ok im not expecting anything better than the 8800GT but just something decent for my price range.

I bought a EN8400GS for £45 but ive read reports on it and tbh its not very good so want to swap it with something else.

Re: What is the best graphics card to get for between £50-60??

If you can hold of the HD4770 512MB from CCL I mentioned then it would be a bargain for the price.

Alternatively I would look at an HD4670 GDDR3 like I said before.

Here are a few HD4670 GDDR3 cards you might want to consider:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158546

DDR3 won't work in a DDR2 motherboard unless it is one of those unusual motherboards which have slots for both RAM types.

Re: What is the best graphics card to get for between £50-60??

The RAM on the graphics is different to the one on the motherboard, so you can a graphics card with any RAM. DDR3 is much faster than DDR2 on graphics cards and is why it is recommended.

Like mrt9888 said the graphics cards RAM is totally different from system RAM. Hence don't worry about this.

The motherboard manual is simply stating what type of system RAM which can be used in the motherboard. A DDR2 motherboard can only take DDR2 DIMMs for system memory.

Graphics card memory is soldered onto the actual graphics card.

I highly doubt they ever had one in at that price. The cheapest i've seen them going when they were available was about £75 (yes i bought one!)
