Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B monitor. Any good?
I'm needing a new monitor and have been looking at the Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B. Has anyone got this monitor? It seems to be available from scan, although they don't seem to have any at the moment.
Alternatively does anyone have any other monitors they would recommend? I'm looking for a 24" monitor with at least 1920x1080 resolution that has as least DVI, HDMI inputs and preferably a height adjustable stand and also not a glossy reflective finish. I'm mainly going to be using it for gaming, but also occasionally some photo/movie editing (not anything professional just basic home stuff) and watching the occasional movie. A 16:10 aspect ratio would be nice, but from what I've seen they are difficult to find these days as everything has gone 16:9. Oh, and my budget would be up to around £250.

I got a ZR24W direct from HP for £288 (was delivered last Monday) but unfortunately it has vanished from their web store. Might be worth keeping an eye on there incase it re-appears. Great monitor, S-IPS panel, height adjustable stand, can rotate to portrait, DVI, VGA, Displayport, USB hub and 16:10.

I got 16 x 2208HDS for work from scan at 130 quid when I bought them I thought they were a bargin. No dead pixels on any of the monitors.

I have this one http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/970125...&ob=Price&fb=0 it has height adjustment, rotates, has speakers, dvi and hdmi too. I paid much less for it back then tho.

Save a bit of cash and get a Samsung SM2343BW?
23", 2048x1152 resolution.
(Yes, I'm recommending my monitor again)

That's an odd resolution, 16:9 or 16:10? do games support it?
Re: Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B monitor. Any good?
16:9 - but you're very close to the 1200 vertical res of 16:10 screens, which is what swayed me - I have a 1920x1080 monitor at work and don't really like the aspect ratio.
Games - it's a mixed bag. Some do, some don't. The best thing is though, if the games don't support it, they definitely will support 1920x1080 - and obviously that's displayable on a 2048x1152 monitor.
Trine is a perfect example - it didn't have 2048x1152 support, so I ran it at 1920x1080. Okay, so it's not native, but it's very close to it, so there aren't really any problems. And then literally two weeks later they patched in 2048x1152 support, so now I run it native. That's the only game that springs to mind at the moment where it didn't support it from the off, but I guess there will be others out there. I was actually surprised at how many games support it.

That's an interesting one, I'll have to look into that - I just assumed the smaller monitors wouldn't have that high a resolution! Just out of interest is the screen surround a gloss or matte finish? (it's always difficult to tell from photos on the web!)
Thanks all for the info people, please do keep the suggestions coming!
Re: Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B monitor. Any good?
Definitely matt.
Samsung do two ranges - I know the 24" model names so I'll use them
SM2443BW - Matt
SM2433BW - Gloss
And needless to say, the matt version looks far better.

Ah! so that's how the naming convention works..I hadn't clicked that, thanks that's really useful info to have. Now I know what to look out for.
I would definitely prefer a matt finish to my monitor, I'm not a big fan of the current trend that seems to be having everything a glossy piano black - it just seems to reflect stuff too much and get covered in fingerprints :)
Re: Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B monitor. Any good?
Yeah, it's very television-esque... I don't like it much myself.
Whilst I'm here, should also mention that the two letters on the end - NW indicates D-SUB (VGA) only, BW indicates DVI as well. It's usually £20 or so more for the BW version, but it's worth the outlay in my opinion.
Re: Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B monitor. Any good?
BTW, is gloss/matte referring to the bezel or the screen?

My bezel is shiny and I really don't mind. It's not as annoying as you might think it would be, I quite like it :P
Re: Iiyama PLB2409HDS-B monitor. Any good?
We've got a couple at work, they just look like dust magnets half the time :).
To be honest though, my main gripe with the Samsung glossy bezels is the shape of them - personally I like really thin bezels that keep out of the way, and the glossy versions tend to treat the bezel as a fashion accessory, making it huge and cumbersome. The actually glossy-ness isn't so much a problem.

Yeah I agree, it's discrete enough on my Dell, but it does get a bit dirty :D
