    8800gtx just died

Just wondering what would be the cheapest option to replace it with. Would a 9500gt be okay? It needs to be just as powerful as the 8800gtx.

    Cheers for any thoughts.

The 9500gt is much slower than the 8800gtx!

You'd need a GTX260 or GTX275 to get something of similar speed.

    A GTS250 is basically a faster version of the 8800GTS 512MB.

The HD5750 1GB should be similar in performance to a GTS250 1GB and will consume less power too. It also has DX11. The HD5770 1GB will be faster than a 8800GTX.

    From Wikipedia:

    Code:
                  8800GTX gts250

    Shaders 128 128
    Core Clock 575 738
    Shader Clock 1350 1836
    Memory GB/s 86.4 70.4
so slower ram, faster shaders, but generally the same ballpark. A gtx 260 is a step up on everything.

Edit to sort out my ascii art table

    Re: 8800gtx just died

Thanks for all the info, folks.

I decided to grab a 250gts 512mb from the "for sale forum" for £50. Hopefully it'll be close enough as budget's tight atm.

no way, either card will be some distance from the 8800GTX

an equivalent would be a 9800GTX (if you can find one) or GTS250.
