    sounds from gfx card ?

    question can a 8600GT do sound from the dvi port via a hdmi cable ?

    I'm pretty sure the DVI port outputs only video and no sound, therefore, even when using a HDMI cable, there would be no sound.

    EDIT: I did some research and found that ATI "customised" their DVI ports slightly so that it could carry sound when using their custom DVI->HDMI adapters that they provide. It would not work with an ordinary adapter though and seeing as your card is an Nvidia card it would not be able to output sound over DVI.

    gtx 200 series was the 1st to have a passthrough cable, the GTX400 series has audio drivers built in.
