OK, its happened... let the flaming wars begin!!!!!
next generation vs next generation parts are out.

And amazingly it looks like ATI pulled an amazingly sexy rabbit out the hat.

I thought ATI was going to have some serious trouble matching Nvidia, let alone beating it. And it looks like its decision to stick with 24-bit and using 500+Mhz core has let it pull some serious performance out. And it can beat the 6800 in many games. I dont think its an out and out victory like the 9700 was over the 5800. Its much closer this time, with a slight edge to ATI.

Granted Nvidia is using 32-bit and has PS 3.0 but unfortunately its not really needed yet.

Hats off to ATI for a good job, though I will probably buy a 6800 GT if the price is right.

PS 3 wont be used for ages, look how long PS2 took to appear. At 6xAA Ati beats the hell out of nvidia, plus their card uses LESS power than previous cards, not a crapload more. Anyway, wait a few weeks and all the 'older' gen ATi cards will be even cheaper, how long till sub £200 9800XT's?

Who wants a "crappy" 9800xt!! LOL

Both companies have become so intensely motivated by competition, that they have pulled out all the stops and taking a much larger leap forward than usual. Which is really going to drop the value of their existing products. (vendors and partners have to get pissed about the value of their existing inventory plummeting)

I know they will only release the high-end right now... $400-500 parts, until more of the old highend parts clear out of inventory before they release the mid-range versions of these cards. (ex: 6800XT ? - like 5900XT)

This would be like Intel coming out with a 6Ghz on .07micron next month to try to leap frog AMD's A64 performance and making all the 3+- Ghz machines worth crap. (And AMD answering with a 4Ghz A64) Dell would be pissed if they had 20,000 CPU's valued at ASP of $230 drop to $100.
