    single slot graphics? best option

well it was said eco cards would flood the market last year, yet to see them, i have a low watt shuttle system, and only space for a single slot card, looking to beef up from my 9800gt, is there anything out there that is better? i'm quite into fps games

Tbh I don't know anything single slot that is faster than 9800GT, apart from some exotic (and yet to be found in stock) editions of Radeon 5000 series and GeForce GTX470, but god knows how much noise they would make or what temperature they would run at.

I think the 9800gt is the best available.

I use a 9600gt in my rig and game at full Hd res. Seems to cope with L4D2, UT3 and Cod4 quite well with maxed options.

The HD4850 was initially released with a single slot cooler although it will have higher power consumption than a bus powered 9800GT.

    not in everything.

In CoD4 and 5 yes it's about 35% faster. I've had both installed in Sair's rig to compare.
In ARMA2 is was slower by around 20%

And a single slot 4850, much as it pains me to say, is quite noisy.

(The eco green 9800 GT don't even need any extra power cables now)

Kinda my point. It won't be as big of an improvement to be worth it, you might as well just stick with your 9800GT, save some money on electricity and invest in a whole new rig some time afterwards.

Edit: crap, didn't see the rig in your signature. It's good enough not to be replaced for quite a while. Well, then to get the max you might try the 4850, otherwise you're stuck, I'm afraid

My wife has the same Shuttle with a 4670. If only they had swapped the PCI & PCIe connectors around, losing the PCI slot to a double width video card wouldn't be a problem. It is otherwise a lovely machine!
