    Resolution problem

    A friend of mine has been having a problem with his resolution, he wants 1680x1050 on his Samsung sm 226bw but the biggest res he go upto is 1600x1200. The gfx is a hd5770 and he's installed the latest drivers but it hasn't solved the problem, he used to do something before to get 1680x1050 but he's forgotten.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Re: Resolution problem

    1600x1200 = 1920000 px
    1680x1050 = 1764000 px

    ...

    what is the native res?

    or is he after 16:10 aspect?

    ...

    In the nvidia control panel you can set a custom resolution, so i'm assuming that ATi must have something in catalyst?

    Re: Resolution problem

    The native resolution is 1680x1050 so he shouldn't be able to set 1600x1200 - it hasn't got that many vertical pixels!

    Unfortunately not.

    There are 3rd partys programs that can force resolutions, though you have to 100% sure your monitor supports the setting you choose and watch the refresh rate too. Powerstrip and DirectRefresh are a few that come to mind. DirectRefresh is small and freeware.

    Re: Resolution problem

    See if there is a driver for his monitor? Likely that windows used the standard driver and restricted access to the 1680x1050 resolution.

    I don't think it uses drivers as such, but it's capable of detecting the model of monitor that you have connected and will set colour profiles accordingly.
