Best Graphics Card Under £100
What is currently the best graphics card under £100.
I was thinking the radeon 4850, 4870, 5750, 5770
What are the difference between these? Which is the best? Which model of them should you buy (512mb or 1gb)(sapphire or asus e.t.c)?
How much of an improvement is DX11 or 10.
BTW, I dual screen. I run a 20" monitor in 1680 x 1050 (for everything), and a 32" HD TV in 1920 x 1080 (for games).
Thank you.
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
Well, I'd say if you could find it in your price bracket, go for 5770 - its performance is similar to 4870, but has lower power consumption. If not, then 4870 or 4890, even. But probably those are out of stock everywhere, so it may be only possible to look for those second-hand.
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
A 4870 can be picked up for £70ish second hand. The 5770 will cost you about £115 new for the same performance (generally) but with DX11 and lower power consumption at idle.
Weigh those factors against what's important to you.

Others have covered the performance. At that resolution there's little difference in most games and at most settings between 512mb and 1gb, however there are a few games that might benefit from 1gb ram if you could run them at the highest settings (crysis?). Make is largely irrelevant as they all buy their chips from AMD, however look at the package and warranty. My rule is basically everyone except XFX are fine.
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
On the nvidia side you'd be looking at a GTS250 1GB (£101). The 512MB version is only £92.
Hexus review HERE (although that's an overclocked version), performs somewhere between a 4850 and 4870 at 1920x1200 (the 9800GTX+ 512MB is basically exactly the same card, incidentally, to give you an idea of how a 512MB version would perform).
For < £100 you're only really looking at the 5750 512MB from the current ATI generation - you'd have to stretch the budget to get 5770 / 1GB...
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
I've only got a small PSU (400W), so if i get a 48XX, i will probably have to upgrade my PSU which will be at least another £50. However if I go for a 57XX I should be okay as long as I do not overclock.
I can get a 5770 for £118 at overclockers.

Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
A 5770 at that price is your best bet.
What psu is it? wattage is meaningless on it's own without make&model and the rest of your specs.
For power worries a 4850 or gts250 is probably your best bet.
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
Brand new GTX 260 on ebay for now £84!. BFG OC 55nm 216 version. I was under the impression this is level-ish with the 5770 but is way cheaper than the one mentioned.
Can't link as I'm in work, sold by techrefurb who are/work with Currys. Card was retail & sealed so you should get the 10yr warranty with BFG as well

Not faster about the same, yes good price :) ebay and warranty are always rather iffy and don't know what bfg's standing on this is as they have pulled out of the market now.
ps the cheapest gtx260 I can see on buy it now is £110

About the same for £35 less, a win in my book :D
Just search for 'BFG 260' 18days left, has been dropping £5 or £6 every few days recently so may go cheaper :)
Warranty - It seems like techfurb is a DSG company/brand so (normal DSG complaints aside) the warranty should be good for something. I'm going to try to register for my warranty with BFG, see what happens :)
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
yeah don't you love fleabay usesr ability to list items  at least they got it in the correct section.
very tempting, might buy one and flog off my two 9800gtx . . .
Re: Best Graphics Card Under £100
They started around £97 I think, so they're dropping (check sold items) could wait a bit longer for cheaper but risk missing out!
