Monitor upgrade
I purchased a AG Neovo monitor a couple of years ago as reccomended by you guys here.
Anyway I'm now wanting to upgrade to a 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor so I'm able to support full HD. Budget isn't really an issue but I won't be looking at purchasing for a couple of weeks.
What would you guys reccomend? Max size would be approx 26" in order to get it to fit on my desk.
Thanks,
S

Re: Monitor upgrade
Ughh 1080p...., Anyhow unless you go for something like the Dell IPS screen there all pretty much going to be similar, TN panels with specs that the manufacturers have lied about or boasted about but are totally irrelevant.
If budget as you say is no issue then I would recommend the Dell U2410, if you can live with 1080p and want to save some cash then try the 23" Dell P2310H I think it is.
HP used to do a very nice 24" model but I think thats now end of life.

Re: Monitor upgrade
Honestly, I don't understand why people keep talking about IPS panels.. they cost quite a bit more and unless you're a real designer, you don't really need it. And these low end IPS panels aren't that much better than TN panels. hahaha. Come on. I have the G2412HD which uses a standard TN panel and I actually compared it to my friends brand new U2410 and guess what, the difference isn't that big. I will admit the U2410 is brighter (because it has 400cd/m) and colors look slightly better and you get better viewing angles... but if it's not important i don't see the point to splurge the extra cash. CS ratio is still 1000:1... And don't boast DCR ratios those are all better than they sound. Standard CS ratio is pretty much standard 1000:1. Now if you want better, I suggest you to wait for the new BenQ's they're releasing and I wrote in a thread with Natural 3000:1 contrast ratio, using VA panels + LED backlit.
Here's the thread:

Since you're not thinking of purchasing your monitor now, you may consider these new series launched from BenQ, they definitely sound promising :)

Re: Monitor upgrade
To me it seems like were going backwards, more and more screens these days are TN panels, a few years back there were a good selection of PVA and IPS screens, all other areas in tech are moving forwards why not monitors?, instead we get lumped with cheap to manufacturer screens with specs that are exagerated so that consumers think there getting something there not, and to top it off there taking pixels away from us now with these bloody 16:9 screens!.

Re: Monitor upgrade
But of course it makes sense. From a profit for company point of view, of course is does. By making cheaper grade paneled monitors you can reach your products to a bigger crowd, therefore, increase demand and market share and also manufacture at economies of scale = more profit. 16:9 displays are also cheaper to manufacture and that's why all companies are doing it. Now adays the 16:9 22" and 24" monitors are what every company is competing each other against in the monitor segment. The profit margins for these monitors are extremely low though because of the competition all companies engage at.
I wouldn't agree that the 'now' TN panels are crap monitors. I would not conclude with that at all. And I say this without being biased of any company at all but speaking from a consumer point of view, myself. By using TN panels, companies are able to lower the prices consumers pay for their monitors. Basically TN panel monitors end up being your 'bang for buck' monitors. And the segment for people who need IPS and VA become a smaller segmented group who have far smaller demand than the TN panel users.
Like I said, it all comes back to economies of scale. TN panel monitors are able to be manufacturers cheaper and therefore appeal to the masses better than your IPS and VA panel monitors. The world is all about making money. BUT, as it always is - as technology improves and advances it just gets better and better for the end consumer. Prices will always drop and newer advancements will always be made. It's the fast cycle of the CE (consumer electronic) products.

Re: Monitor upgrade
I have a Acer GD245HQ and im very pleased with it.
Its also 1920 by 1080 and is 120hz.
I haven't used the 3D Vision side of things yet,but im thinking about buying this soon, apparently 3D Vision takes a lot of GPU power that is the major setback using this.
Games run super smooth and look brilliant using the 120hz
I would highly recommend the Acer GD245HQ
