Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
as the title says got my two cards yesterday wanted to see what everyone else was getting
mine
PAlit gtx 460 sonic 1024mb 700/1400/3600
currently unifnished overclocking but so far my first attempt
775/1550/3800 fans get a little noisy and temps stay below 70c at full load
on furmark bench test at 1680x1050 no aa
stock did just over 10000 and 168fps avg
overclocked 11000 ish and 184fps avg
Am gonna try for higher overclock and see how it goes.
at stock mine gets 24311 on 3d mark vantage compared to 17700 for my old 5870 xxx:mrgreen:
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
I have the standard EVGA GTX460 1GB default is 675/1350/3600
running the same overclock as yourself. Got to 74c under load using the EVGA OC Scanner.

Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
I can only see the title bars in that image ?
Also, Anandtech recommended leaving the memory alone when OC as the memory controller is iffy on Fermi and its not ECC either - overclocking RAM can introduce more problems than benefits.
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
mine is noisy as hell at load it does about 74c but the fans on the palit sound really whiney.
Have got a single arctic cooling accelero twin turbo pro am gonna put on one card and ordered a second one for the other card will re do my overclock then and see how it goes

Hey, I know I'm digressing but may I ask what cooler you use on your CPU and what your idle/load temps are?
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
I just fitted an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Rev 2. Idle around 35c at the moment, pushing 60c under load running prime95 64bit. Air flow a bit poor as I forgot to reconnect my crossflow fan, although I'm enjoying the quiet!
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
That's pretty much identical to make setup and I get same temps too!
Have you ever clocked yours way higher? I'm tempted to see how far I can go but too chicken...
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
Nah this is the highest I've took the CPU to. Too chicken!

(^^ PPU disabled). Virtually inaudible, no noise, whine or anything like that.

You need to turn off PPU in the Vantage settings to get a comparable result to ATI cards.
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
880 on both cards ? Very nice result there!

Lots of people have been getting over 900 on the MSI / Gigabyte / Asus custom cooled ones.
I've seen up to around 920 Mhz on the gigabyte and Asus, and 940-980 Mhz on the MSI (980 was on water.
This is the best I've seen so far on air, but with a single MSI card:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...9&postcount=86
My cards begin to artifact too much at 890 Mhz, and even at 880 it was a little apparent. 875 was completely clear with no artifacts so I'll be using them at 875 / 2100 which is the highest stable and artifact free setting.
Temperature doesnt seem to be an issue with the artifacts, at 890-900 Mhz, I began seeing them at 69 / 70 degrees and just pressed the ESC key as soon as they appeared to tweak them down. They dont exceed 80 degrees at full load when overclocked, to manage that on my 5770s overclocked the fan speed would have needed to go really loud.
875 / 2100 is still a great overclock for Nvidia cards, and 80 degrees max temp with hardly any noise is great on these MSIs.
I'll try to get my Zalman fan bracket installed over them later on to try and reduce the temps a bit, this is how they are currently installed:

The great thing about these cards is that they are the same length as the 5770s while only being slightly behind the 5850 in terms of performance, so I managed to fit them without having to remove the fan in front of them. They also run a lot cooler than my 5770s did with far less noise.
Comparison pic against a 5770:

If I had gotten 5850s instead, I would have had to remove the top drive bay slot that has the interior fan clip. My case can hold two 5970s, but large cards arent ideal as I would have a lot less front to back airflow.
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
Does the MSi have a voltage tweak option ? I had the Asus favoured over all others because i know it does.

Of course it does, you can see it in my overclock picture in the MSI Afterburner software. As long as you only overclock / overvolt within the limits of the provided software, it is still covered by the warranty, same as with Asus.
The only nice custom cooled version that doesnt come with voltage tweak is the Gigabyte one, but MSI Afterburner works on all graphics cards. To enable voltage tweaking on it, you need to go into the settings and unlock the feature (its locked out by default).
The Gigabytes were £176, the MSI were £10 more, but I still chose them for the out of the box voltage tweak, black PCB and nicer looking cooler :)
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
My zotac 460 can do with stock volts 850/1000. With 1.056v 875/1050

ocz hydroflow block with a triple rad
Idle cpu temp 18-20c Load 26-30c @ 3.5ghz with 1.425v
Re: Post Your GTX 460 OVerclocks
Think I'm going to have to try and push 800+ now :D
