New Monitor and a Graphics Card to match

After deciding to scrap getting a laptop and save my self a bit of cash
I'm going to use my old rig c2d 6750 with my 4850 at the GF's

My new problem is which gfx and which monitor to get for my i7 rig. I'll be using it for gaming.
I'm no fan boy so I'm not bothered about the brand of card Just want the best for my money

I'm looking to get a decent 1080p monitor or higher with a budget of about £150 - £200. I dont want a stupidly huge monitor as I sit quite close. Just a 22" inch will do unless it will be better to get a 24 inch I dont know what the difference is as you seem to be able to get 1080 in both sizes will the 22" be smaller pixels thus giving better quality?

The graphics cards I have been looking at are both the 5850 and the GTX 460 anything above that would be overkill for the size monitor I am looking at is this correct? Or should I just got all out?

of course you could go for a pre overclocked one but the choice is yours tbh

That three game package is definitely enticing but you can get a 1GB GTX460 for about 175 quid, overclock it with little trouble and get same performance as the 5850 but with added hardware physx support.
I paid for a 5850 in June, cost me 225 quid and I'm regretting not having waited because Nvidia's automated game profile systems is just far more convenient.

Basically, when it comes to 1080p display, most people will say there isn't much of a big difference between 22" and 24", and the truth is there isn't. The reason why is because you don't more pixels with the 2 inches or anything like that, however, what you do get is 2 inches more to stretch that 1080p display, so things wont be so small. I find it better when looking at a 24" 1080p than a 22" 1080p, but that's just me, and STILL i'll admit the difference isn't that noticeable.

I'll recommend you checking out the BenQ V2420H, which is a pretty cool monitor. Not only it combines all the best of world's (port connection availability + LED backlit), but it seems that if you buy it from ebuyer you get 2 years of onsite swap exchange warranty which is pretty good! The monitor costs £178.58. Please don't mistake the monitor for being LED based. It's LED backlit which means it replaces the standard CCFL backlit with LED. But the difference is that the brightness is brighter with more of a glow. And the bulbs will last a lot longer, and retain their initial output power. I have some LCD powered by CCFL that over the years (3-4) have gotten a bit dimmer due to bulb lifespan.

Yup, that monitor is fairly new, and actually the 22 inch version of it was claimed by BenQ as the thinnest LED 22" monitor in the world as it was only 15mm thick. The 24" is only a few mm thicker

its up to you in the end which card you go for but I've seen people OC 5850 to the level where they almost match the 5870 but again the final say is yours :)
