are these 1GB gigabyte GTX460 OC running too hot? (used FurMark to load these cards)
GPU1 (top card):
idle temp: 62C
load temp: 99C
GPU2:
idle temp: 36C
load temp: 73C
Both of the cards are close together leaving only about 1cm space of airflow for the top card. These are stock overclocked.
The mobo am using is the Asus P6X58D-E and case Corsair 700D (all fans fitted).
as they are stock overclocked thats to be expected
Pretty sure its down to SLI and that the 700D doesn't have much in the way of direct intake for your cards.
Don't forget Furmark is an artificial load tester, so games may not reflect the same load.
Are these temperatures normal because i notice once GPU1 hits 99C, "GPU2 usage" looks like it starts throttling...
gpu 2 will if these is no gap between them, this is the problem with stock overclocked cards with a standard cooler, they cannot cope under full load.

Mayby till you get them watercooled set up a more aggressive fan profile in rivaturner? Its pretty easy to set up a scalable fan profile that ramps up more than the stock one.

I only suggested Rivaturner as thats what I have used to do it.
actually the fan profile section looks for all intents to be the same tool riva tuner uses, i think they brought the code!
I cant imagine them getting that hot, but I cant figure out how to use Kombustor to stress both of my cards together.
Under vantage, my top card maxes out at 80 degrees, so they probably would get hotter under furmark.

On the serious side - (the 460 is actually a nice card of course) but it seems like just a problem with the airflow and the cards being too close together.
With heat generally its a spiral so if the cooling isnt adequate, even slightly then the temperatures start to creep up, which in turn makes cooling harder and so on and so forth until you get to breaking point. So if the ambient temperature in the area is getting warmer and warmer, then the cards cant suck in cool air, which makes the cooling system less efficient and starts things heating up even more. At least this is the way I understand it.
Watercooling should definitely improve matters. I dont think I would consider a dual GPU system without watercooling, especially for a fairly warm running GPU.
download msi afterburner as it comes with an sli enabled kombustor
I have downloaded the latest Afterburner and kombustor software, but even with the multi GPU version, my second card never gets stressed so I cant check my cards at all to see if they go as bad as the OPs.Originally Posted by GoNz0
In both Vantage and Heaven, my cards only peak at 65 degrees at stock speeds (725 / 3600), and at their max overclock, the top card peaks at 80 degrees, and the bottom one at 70ish (875 / 4200).
I have 3 empty slots between each card though on my motherboard, with a fan in front of them. Even with just 1200 rpm noise less case fans, my MSI GTX 460s dont overheat when overclocked is anything that 've tried so far, I just want to try and kombustor to work with both cards.
I got Kombustor working on both GPUs in DX9 mode, my results are very far off the OPs:
