    Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

Not the cards, just the content of the reviews.

Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I still have no idea how the 460s compare to the 55nm 260 c216 or even a 285 just some random ATI number.

Nor do I know how well the 460s preforms with DX9 since thats what 99% of my games are or scales from a Q6600 to whichever i7 happens to be topdog today.

Even though I'll probably end up getting one to replace the SLI 9600gt's in my other rig.

    Re: Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

Well as the 5770 performs around the same as the gtx260 216core these gtx460 are between the gtx275 and gtx285 depending on game and resolution.
Generally between the 5770/5830 and the 5850 for perforrmance.

    Re: Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

The question is not if it's faster but how much, esp important on series that changes DX version.
eg back when the 8series came out
the 8600gt was faster than the 7600gt but only just and was slightly slower than the 7900GS
    The 7600gt was £75 the 7900gs was £95 and the 8600gt was £120

If you can pick up a gtx260 for £100 then it's well worth it over an only slightly faster gtx460 768mb for £150
Or if you're looking to replace it is £150 worth it just for a very small performance gain?

    Re: Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

Pretty much agree with Pob255, just because the model number goes up does not automatically mean that its better than its predecessor.

    Another good GTX460 review I've found is TR's: http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/19242

I'm currently waiting for stocks of the eVga GTX460 1GB SC EE to land so I can upgrade the SLI'd 9600gt's in my i7/Win7 x64 rig. The GTX260 will be staying put in my Q6600/WinXP Pro x64 rig as there is no pressing need to upgrade.

As long as its not FX5800 Ultra dust buster loud I'm ok with it as I game mostly with headphones, besides the blower style cooler seems to be more efficient than the stock cooler which is important to me as it will be going into a micro-atx case with limited airflow and of course their support and warranty are top notch.

No such thing as future proof with PC gaming however I'd expect at least a couple of years from a new mid-range card minimum these days.

    Re: Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

Current consoles are constraining the progress of graphics progression anyway (for example, Call of Juarez 1 had DX10... CoJ2 Bound in Blood is DX9 only...) but regardless, the GTX460 has ample of umpth in it with plenty of room for overclocking.

    Re: Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

Every review ive read and peoples comments on forums regard the GTX 460 as an excellent card.

It can be overclocked extremely well and when overclocked is knocking on the GTX 470 and 5850 door and sometimes better when overclocked to 800-900 mhz

    Re: Disappointed with GTX460 reviews

Try this ink for a comparison:

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/164?vs=180

They seem to be worth £30 less than a 5850 to me, and if you get two they seem to scale a lot better than the 5850 does.

I replaced a 5770 crossfire with two MSI Cyclones.
