    23"-24" monitor? Suggestions Please :D

Well i have been planning on getting a 24" monitor in the next month or two so i thought id start looking now.

I looked awhile back and there was mainly 1900x1200 resolution monitors, to me thats the resolution i want as it is the most common for gaming and gives a good desktop/work space. Looking today all i see is some stupid 1900x1080 monitors... what is up with that??? Im not using my monitor for console gaming and i dont mind having HD films with a black bar (heck hasnt this been the case on normal tv's for years?).

Is there something im missing cause i dont see an advantage to this lower resolution?. And if someone can suggest a 24" monitor that is good for gaming (mainly) and films then please do, ideally looking at <£200 and LED seems to have a good effect on power usage so if they come under my budget then id preferably like one of them.

    Thanks.

    Re: Whats happened to monitors?

The main reason you can get 24" monitors for so little these days is down to the smaller resolution. Manufacturers can share the same panels as 24" TVs so they get better volume and better prices.

1900x1200 monitor are still around, it's just they are much more expensive, just like all 24" monitors used to be.

Also being 1900x1080, they can stick an UD sticker on it... HD is great right?

    Conform already.

I don't see how a 1080p monitor is generally bad for gaming/work use anyway ?

The monitor in my sig can be had for £140-50, LED back lighting and all.

I know we have at least 6 models in the 23" - 26" size which have 1920 x 1200 resolutions.

I hear people like some vertical resolution to go with their horizontal

Office and the internet, generally these things use up and down navigation. You would think monitors that increase the amount of moving about you need to do wouldn't be a great idea

    Re: Whats happened to monitors?

Thanks for the quick replies guys!.

I kinda assumed that was the only real reason to do the lower resolution, i guess when i last looked we didnt have a crap exchange rate so to me it seems like the newer ones are like £50 cheaper than the 1900x1200 but the latter has gone up .

Terb, thats not a bad monitor i will have a look in detail at it. Since my budget doesnt allow for me to have the 1900x1200 resolution i wont worry to much about the lower one. Have you noticed any ghosting in that monitor? I know some people who had the non led one mentioned some slight ghosting but wondered if they fixed it with the LED version.

@ Dave, thanks for the tip i did look and yeah they are a tad over budget, the other thing is that they majority are more than 24" which is what i wanted to avoid... the only 1900x1200 24" i see is the dell IPS panel for £400, i would love to have that but i think its to far over my budget (i would only push to £250 if it offered a major difference).

Oh and if it helps, i only need DVI Since i dont do console gaming anymore so sole purpose is for computer display.

How about this for a better selection:
    http://www.dabs.com/category/computi...920000#filters

    Dabs are on Quidco too

    Or ebuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/search?page=1&...49=1920+x+1200

(their filters don't work 100%, there is still at least one 1080p monitor in there)

Haven't noticed anything out of place myself, light uniformity is surprisingly good I've found as well, although some tinkering will probably be required for you to get it how you like it.

Also, it only has DVI and VGA inputs so your good to go in that department, HDCP compatible as well.

Do what I did and get a 20" CRT cheap off ebay?

OK, I know, not very helpful, but I really don't see the attraction of TFT and widescreen, personally...

    Re: Whats happened to monitors?

1920x1200 is disappearing on all non-pro monitors as far as I can work out.

That's why I ended up with 2048x1152 - 48 fewer pixels vertically, but 128 extra horizontally. And it was only £160 or so when I bought it.

hmm doesnt that generate a afair bit more stress for the graphics card?. And have you found most games to support that resolution?
