    XFX 5830 first impressions

So, my budget xfx 5830 arrived (£120@scan), as I haven't got time to do some proper testing, I thought I post my first impressions, sorry for the rubbish pics, let's blame apple for them:

    package and bundle:
usual XFX stuff, 2 pcie power connectors, "do not disturb I'm gaming", cd and papers, dvi-dsub converter, crossfire bridge...

yeah, the card is huge though it fits well in my 300...

I've fired up AvP, which has been struggling on my HD4850 1GB especially in the forest and during the boss fight with the predator, so I had to lower the res and settings...Now I've started it in dx11 path, and cranked up everything to max (1080p) and yeah... it couldn't be smoother...

as for the noise, this is the quietest stock card what I had...during idle it keeps the fan <20% and under load I could not hear it either...mind you I have very quiet fans (all of them are less than 10dba), so it would definitely annoy me if it would be audible

as for now I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend this card, however I'll only be able to test it properly next saturday. I'll post some oc results and temps too.

If you would like to see how this performs in any particular game then post it here and I'll give it a go

If you don't know, then you don't have it

Flight Sim X. It's a bit of a Crysis for systems, with some very strange behaviour regarding upgrades - sometimes it seems it's CPU limited, but other GPU improvements do sometimes result in more performance.

Well if you like flight sims it's a great game, but the demo isn't representative so don't bother unless you're buying the full game.. but that's not worth it if you're not a fan.. and if you were a fan you'd already have bought it

Excellent finally i see someone buy a 5830 since everyone was complaining how poor they are but for price you pay for it is totally worth it £123 is a bargain since its right next to the 5770 price.
I am thinking of upgrading to this card soon.

Actually the price was really high at first, so it pretty much doomed the cards reputation.
I look forward to see how it performs in games though...

What I would really love to see is a CF review...for £246 it should be a lot better than a 5850 or 5870...

I am tempted, although got my 5830 when it was £150, but i love how scan are charging a £35 premium for the AVP version

I've got avp for 9 pounds in game. As I've noticed it rarely worths the price premium for bundles, pc games become cheaper very soon after release anyways

    Re: XFX 5830 first impressions

    A quick update:

the stock cooler is very silent even under load, though the card can reach around 80C in furmark....

replaced cooler with accelero twin turbo...got idle temps to 32C from 45C, and load temps to 62C at 900/1300

I've tried the following games so far, Avp, borderlands, clear sky all runs brillianly in fullhd maxed...i know these are not very demanding titles...unfortunately I did not have time to check others

anyway, brilliant upgrade from a 4850/4870 me thinks...

btw, how can I oc the card further? the max in catalyst is 900/1300 which it can handle without any problems..so I'd like to see what headroom does it have..

I've tested it with GTA4...in 1080p with max settings it runs on 45-60 fps, which is a relief after struggling with the 4850 for months... I'm more and more satisfied with this card..

    Re: XFX 5830 first impressions

i would say that the £154.99 for this card was a bargain to be honest , same performance in crysis as my old crossfired 5770's . even metro 2033 runs smooth for me @1920x1080 with only DOF turned off , never tried GTA4 is it any good ? . i was getting sick of the stutter in games with the 5770's
