As far as I know, the only difference between Lite and normal is that Lite doesn't have all the free software (e.g. games), only the bare essentials (drivers). The card itself is the same as far as I know.
"Well, there was your Uncle Tiberius who died wrapped in cabbage leaves but we assumed that was a freak accident."
yer, its exactly the same card, but 'light' ie no baggage
lol - thanks for the info Im wary of those 'lite' tags they can sometimes mean extra hardware features disabled etc
thnx

Yeah, i bought the Lite edition like 2 months ago and it comes with the card (ofcourse), driver CD, and some cables (like S-Video i think)
I've got one & it's the same clock speed etc, just no bundle of games.
Just go for it, you won't regret it.....
Yeah it's kinda between retail and OEM

well they sent the card but its a Saphire 9800 pro but had 256MB DDR2 on it i ordered the 128mb so is this card ok? is it better or worse than the 128mb? it does say 9800 pro but DDR2 256mb.
Either way performance difference is barely noticeable so dont worryOriginally Posted by Romanov
cool thnx
256mb = nice bonus i should think, but you knew that alreadyOriginally Posted by Romanov
With Sapphire 'Lite' usually refers to the packge only, and does not indicate any downgrade in the card.
Quote from Sapphire:
'Full retail indicates that the package contains the entire bundle including the Game software bundle and utilities. The Lite retail versions do not come bundled with the software bundle and are packaged with the neccessities needed to enjoy the pinnacle in performance from Sapphire alone.'
The majority of UK stock is 'Lite Edition' on Sapphire, as to buy in the 'Full Retail' costs several dollars more and in all honestly is not worth it.
It may be worth noting that several cards do still go for the 'Full' package, these tend to be the AIW or some of the real high end kit.
'Lite' with other manufactuers can mean different perfromance, take PowerColor for example. The Lite cards has slower speeds and as such less cooling, making them cheaper to produce hence lower retail price.
nVIDIA also do some 'Lite Edition' cards such as certain FX5700.
All in all, it adds confusion, but you will be safe with Sapphire. The Sapphire 9800 Pro is one of our top sellers, I for one am glad to see the 9800 Pro chipset make a bit of a comeback at a keen price tag.

Nice one Rmanov - the 256MB card cost quiet a bit more. If ure up for it, tale off the heatsink and have a look at the core - if its a R360... along with ure 256MB RAM ure laughing mate

It may be worth mentioning that sometimes the Sapphire cards are shippined in generic/or incorrect packages. A few times we have seen the main image on the box say 256Mb but the actual product sticker (on the end of the box) and the card itself to be the 128MB version. Just Sapphire skimping on packaging!

is the lite version much cheaper than the 'normal' version?
Not much cheaper zhen, prices of 9800 have nose dived, they used to be £20-30 cheaper but its like £5 now.
