for what though? im happy with a 8800gts 512 in my pc, pc gaming has slowed big time for me! shame really, only mw2 gets played :)
All depends on your screen resolution really.
1680x1050 - I'd suggest a GTX460 768MB or a 5830 1GB
1920x1090 - I'd suggest a GTX460 1GB or a 5850 1GB
Personally though, I'd wait to see what ATI do in the next couple of months. The 6xxx series is rumoured for November and I doubt your GTX275 is struggling cos mine isn't, even at 2048x1152.
In that budget I don't think there's a card that will give you a noticable performance boost. Push the upper limit to include a 5850 or GTX 470 and it *might* be enough of a lift to be worth it depending on the games you play.
Personally I don't think its worth upgrading for less than 5870 performance but like you I wouldn't want to pay much over £200 Max for my next card when I got this one retail for £150 a year ago.
cheers guys... it's what I felt was the righty set of answers, but I was just wondering in case I'd missed a total storming deal/performance combo.
I wish there was one, because the fan under load on my 275 is load enough that could almost justify an upgrade (to myself anyway, probably not the other half!)
As it is I'm hoping that reports of the 6770 being close to 5870 performance are true, and that its priced like a 5770, because if that's the case I think it could be the new sweet spot!
I would wait and see what the 6xxx generation from AMD is got to say. I always tend to skip a generation with graphics cards although if you have deep pockets go for it :)
Hmm that's a touch worrying, and you have the reference cooler? I'll have to check out the temps, I know the airflow in my case isn't the best, but I didn't worry about it as all reviews I read said it was a fairly noisy card!
I had a 4870 toxic before and it was noisier, even thuogh it's considered a cool/quiet card. I changed to a 275 because the 260 I'd fitted for people were so quiet and powerful.
275's are very effiecient cards. If it's HOT in that case,, take the side off and see if it spins slower!
Looks like it was my mistake, I had assumed that since it was a game I was playing when my system was sounding like it wanted to take off that the noise was my GPU.
After further investigation it seems as though the game (borderlands) is actually cpu bound in my rig, and its the cpu cooler (92mm fan) that's the source of the noise. Need to double check though, didn't fancy stopping fans when its already stressed!
The nvidia 460 should be 2 dB quieter as well if you base it on the following comparison chart here as well as saving a little bit more power as it seems to be more efficent.
sorry to step in , but would a GTX460 be a resonable upgrade from a GTX260 (192)? am toying with the idea of changing it
yes I think it would be.
