    460 GTX or 465?

Looking for a new card for my brother and noticed the 465 has just come out, is it worth spending that little bit more on the new verson of the card ? or just stay with the 460
I admit I'm bias towards nvidia, but is there a good/better Radeon for around the same money ?

    Thanks!

    Re: 460 GTX or 465?

465 is older than the 460 and worse. (unless of course it unlocks to a 470 with a bios flash!).

I think the 460 768 models are good value at ca £120. Again the 6xxx series from ait is out soon so it may push current prices down.

    Re: 460 GTX or 465?

Forget the 465, it's crap - cut down, power hungry and noisy. 460 has it beaten on all fronts.

    Re: 460 GTX or 465?

yup the gtx 460's are great cards, the only better card is the 5850 and its still mix and match in terms of what games it wins and looses to. For me the gtx 460 was the best choice instead of the 5850 because 1: was slightly cheaper and 2: SLI scaling is the best and my board is only SLI so its more future proofed (i know thats never possible with computers but its the best attempt!).

@ Dan, the palit card is humming a long nicely now as i got a vga cable . You can hear the fan but the auto fan is quite persistent on keeping temps down, most of the time on auto it will keep it to <58C load!. I used the fan setting and its very acceptable for me, comparing it to the 4870 i had in the system its so quiet . Thanks for the card again .

    Re: 460 GTX or 465?

460 over 465, every time. Less heat, Less noise, Less power hungry, just as fast.
There is no better Radeon for the money, but the HD5830 is equal. If you're a geforce fan though you probably play nvidia-biased titles, so you may as well buy the GTX460.

    Re: 460 GTX or 465?

Nah. My 4870X2s are a little dusty now, so the fans run up to 5900rpm (should be 5000 but the bearings have worn in a bit). The max speed for the fans fitted to most geforces is 3500 or 4000!

someone else with a noisy GTX that should be a quiet GTX.

    I've fitted a 285 to Seriousam's PC and it's near silent.

The 285 is a very efficient card, and it should be really pretty quiet.
