    GTX 460 or SAPHIRE 5770

As the title suggests I'm wondering what is the better choice and leaving it up to you guys to tell me which and why. I had to return my 4890 as it was faulty and i didn't fancy having another. I've seen the Asus GTX 460 768mb & the Saphire radeon 5770 1gb the gtx460 being £2 cheaper.
Its mainly for gaming really and will be for watching movies.

Which is best and why ? ...

Re: GTX 460 or SAPHIRE 5770

The HD5770 1GB is a more power efficient card at load. However, the GTX460 768MB will be faster although it needs a pair of PCI-E power connectors. The 768MB of RAM the GTX460 has may prove a limitation at high resolutions with AA though.

Re: GTX 460 or SAPHIRE 5770

I made the mistake of buying a new psu with only 1 6pin pci-e connector so i think that may be a problem. I'm also not to keen on the look of the nvidia card :¬?

    I'm now very tempted at getting this 1GB XFX HD5770, PCI-E 2.1

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-X...roductFeatures

Also this it's only £4 more and seems faster :.\

Any advice on these 2 cards would be appreciated

Re: GTX 460 or SAPHIRE 5770

The GTX460 768MB is slightly faster than an HD5830 1GB AFAIK. The HD5830 1GB is slightly slower than an HD4890 and the GTX460 is slightly faster IIRC. The HD5770 1GB is around the same speed as an HD4870.

It seems that the HD6000 series maybe launched in October or November.

Re: GTX 460 or SAPHIRE 5770

    Well i ordered from scan today a nice new "1GB XFX HD 5770 XXX, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), 5200MHz GDDR5, GPU 875MHz, 800 Cores".

Now looking forward to getting some gaming in when it arrives, built in HD4200 is killing me.

Re: GTX 460 or SAPHIRE 5770

the 460 is alot faster than the 5770 - the 5770 is a grade scale down , with the nv GTS250 on the same `fight` - maybe try and cancel the 5770 and get the 460?

Actually the 5830 is typically slightly faster than the 4890 according to the anandtech review. It's marginal though, probably less than 10%.

    GTX460 768Mb* > 5830 1Gb > 4890 1Gb > 57700 1Gb

    * Where you're not memory limited

The difference between the 460GTX and the 5770 1Gb is probably about 20-25% overall (i.e. the GTX460 is probably about 20-25% faster than the 5770 if I had to estimate)
