    HP Monitor flashing colours?

    Hi

Hope someone can help with this. I've got an HP w2448HC monitor. Had it about a year and half now. Turned on my pc this morning and after about a minute the monitor just started flashing colours up on the screen. Looking on HP's forums its some kinds of burn in test or something. Problem is, none of the buttons on the monitor now work to turn it off.

Anyone else had a problem like this with an HP monitor? Any fixes? I've tried calling HP but they don't open on a weekend.

No one got any ideas? I've just spoken with HP who have said they won't support it as its just gone out of warranty! And their out of warranty repairs department won't repair monitors...

You need to do a bit of research on the Sale of Goods act. Ask yourself this question:
Is it reasonable that a 24" monitor fails after 18 months in the way you have used it?

    Re: HP Monitor flashing colours?

Someone mentioned this to me the on Sunday. I might give it a try. At the end of the day, its been sat on my desk, turned off at night and nothings been done to stop it working.

I also read somewhere else that an EU directive is that all consumer products should have a minimum 2 year warranty from 2000 or something. Just we've not included it in our law yet!

The problem with that (if I understand the SOGA correctly) is it only applies if the monitor has failed because of an *inherent* problem (i.e. once that was present when you bought it) and the burden of evidence is on you to prove it, rather than on them to prove otherwise. Certainly worth considering, just don't get your hopes up.

    Re: HP Monitor flashing colours?

I'm pretty sure its not an inherent problem. Its just happened. I'm just suprised, if it is a test mode, that HP have no documentation on how to turn it off. Infact, HP's support is almost no existant on their website.

    Re: HP Monitor flashing colours?

I don't know if this will work, Google HP monitor service menu, follow the instructions to the service menu and look for an option to disable monitor burn in.

    Re: HP Monitor flashing colours?

Tried all that, nothing works. I've seen some saying press the menu button, others saying press the menu and + buttons.

I have a feeling it was a power surge that caused it. The plug for my hard drive is also making a buzzing sound now and that was plugged into the same twin plug socket when the monitor went off. Guess that teaches me a lesson for not using a surge protector!
