I currently have a Shuttle SD37P2 with the 450W PC55 PSU:

The PSU has three 12V lines which are rated at 17A,17A and 15A. I wonder if this PSU is sufficient with a GTX460 786MB??
I currently use an HD4830 512MB and have had a 8800GTS 512MB before in the computer with no issues.
The computer has a Q6600 at stock speeds,4GB of DDR2 and a pair of SATA hard disks and an IDE DVD rewriter.
Yup no problem. Just look at the power consumption tests and whole systems are getting about 250W under full load, even if the rest of the system drew exactly 0W that'd only need 20A from the PCI-E slot and 2x12v rails.
I second that, should be no problem. There are a couple of sites I know of which try to measure the power consumption for gpus only instead of the entire system, which I find extremely useful when working out psu requirements especially if they use more than one +12V rail.

From those results, the GTX460 can use up to 141W when stressed, and doing some simple math:
141W / 12V = 11.75A needed on the +12V rail
So your Shuttle PSU should handle it with room to spare.

Also most psu's are not truely independent rails, the rails are often cross linked within the psu.
What this often means is that it's using Schottky rectifying diodes in parallel rather than in series (normal for single rail psu's)
Alot will depend on what is actually going on inside the PSU.

I was thinking of getting the Palit GTX460 768MB as it has a shorter PCB.
However,there seems to be a GTX460 with a single PCI-E power connector:

I personally wouldn't reconmend using a random or cheap brand PSU to power anything if you want use it for gaming,i would reconmend getting the corsair 400w minimum if you want power the GTX460 768mb,the psu can be bought for £30 or something and as you can see i am running my GTX460 with the 400w corsair psu i am using the 6pin that is attatched to my psu already and one 2 molex to 6pin but i will soon upgrade psu to a better one.
The Shuttle PSUs are proprietary units made for their SFF barebones systems. They tend to be based on server PSUs IIRC and they are not cheap either.Quote:

Just curious, did you get this to work yet? How did you wire up the two 6-pin PSU connectors on the 460? I have a SD37p2 also with upgraded 450W PSU (old one died after 3.5 years) and thought about getting this card.
I have not got the card yet as I decided to get an HD6850 1GB in the next few months. The HD6850 1GB only needs a single PCI-E power connector and has similar performance to a GTX460 1GB AFAIK. However,I am waiting for the price of the HD6850 1GB to drop.Quote:

For a shuttle though, I think you may be right in opting for team red, even with the Fermi redesign, the chips seem a litle too power-hungry when compared to AMDs 5 and 6 series.
The bog standard GTX460 1GB cards are around the speed of an HD6850 1GB whereas the overclocked ones seem closer to an HD6870. However,it seems that an HD6850 1GB can be overclocked to around 900MHZ to 960MHZ for the GPU and almost all HD6850 1GB cards use a single PCI-E power connector. The ones with a pair of PCI-E power connectors seem to hit around 1GHZ for the GPU.Quote:
