Thinking of throwing a 6850 into the HTPC for 3D BluRay and a bit of gaming....wondering how it performs and can't seem to find much on it.

Not sure about the performance, the 3dguru review touched on it.
The most indepth I've seen so far is the Hardware canucks review

Still not explored full perfromance tests, but it's hard as both game and movie 3d is done through 3rd party software, so that would be a lot more setups to test.
Also should point out that the ATi cards don't do multi-monitor 3d so if you've gone the eyefinity route you're probably going to have to buy new monitors, again.
EDIT: Still that said there's not really any game that struggles on a 5850 on a single monitor, so the 6870 should be able to cope with any game you can throw at it on any monitor.
Personal bias, look up the Zalman trimon you don't even need a 6xxx series ati card for that.

Sorry photobucket links broken
ATI cards have been able to do stereoscopic 3D using third party drivers & monitors for a long time They can also do multi-monitor 3D (assuming you mean driving 3D output to more than 2 monitors) as Sapphire showed off a 3 screen Zalman trimon eyefinity set up (running off some form of 5-series card) some time ago.
The only difference with HD3D is that a) only the 6-series support the appropriate version of HDMI for BluRay 3D (1.4a, I think?), and b) ATI have decided to push it as a feature.
But I'd have to agree with Pob myself: if you want stereo 3D go for the Zalman trimon set up: passive glasses FTW
Well, I'm not in the market for a monitor, it's only for occasional gaming on the HTPC, which is hooked-up to a 50" 3D plasma
Thanks for looking though, guess I didn't miss much and there is not much info out there about it yet
