Question Looking for a new monitor

Hi guys, any of you in the know about new pc monitors?

    Primary Use: Gaming
    Secondary Use: TV & Movies

The spec I am looking for is:

    Size: 23-24"
    Resolution: 1920x1200 (Aspect 16:10)
    Frequency: True 120Hz
    Responce Time: <=5ms G2G
    Preferably back-lit by LED
Preferable Panel: e-IPS, P-IPS or H-IPS. If push comes to shove, a TN panel would be good but then HAS to be <=2ms G2G response time.

Obviously lower the cost the better, definitly no more than £300 tops if possible. If you do find one over that price please still list it so I can follow it.

Re: Looking for a new monitor

The Dell U2311H is worth looking at:

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2311h.htm

However, none of the monitors under £300 are 16:10 ratio but instead are 16:9 ratio.

    Edit!!

The HP ZR24W should fit the bill but is between £300 and £350:

Re: Looking for a new monitor

That ticks almost all of the boxes but one quite important one for me, True 120hz. This monitor I believe is 60Hz maximum which is unfortunate.

I myself have found only TN based True 120hz monitors which is kind of sad :'(

This is because monitors which have IPS panels do so for better colour accuracy not gaming.

TBH, it looks like you will need to get a monitor with a TN panel and anyway such a monitor would be more appropriate for your requirements.

Re: Looking for a new monitor

Unless you really care about viewing angles then I'd definitely go for one of these new 120hz TN panels. Firstly 120hz is in fashion and it'll be nice to ride the 3D wave. Secondly, it's worth saving a few bucks (compared with an IPS) until better screen technology makes an appearance i.e. OLED, 120hz IPS etc.

If it's any use I've been impressed by my Acer GD245HQ - ticks the boxes you seek except LED backlit.

Re: Looking for a new monitor

    Im on a Viewsonic VX2268WM 120hz LCD.

    Mini review:
Looks sleek with a silver border around 22" screens black bezel - native res at 1680x1050 - 16:10 - Stand is a bit flimsy.
I too wanted a 120hz LCD for the gaming. I do however view image quality and reproduction ever so slightly over gaming performance, I wish they were monitors that catered to both equally as well.
Colours are, from what Ive seen after calibrating it from a tomshardware review, pleasing and quite accurate, but slightly desaturated, but not played about with it too much as what I have now is good, and the buttons at the bottom of the screen annoy you after a few minutes of use and are very slow to register clicks on the OSD (major gripe with these buttons - I dont understand how in this day and age, the 90's monitor control buttons are still about - the hard clunky clicking - seriously is it that hard to add in touch or even a soft click? ARGH). Brightness and contrast out of the box blind you.
One major problem is the blacks/dark colours - Even on HD video the blacks arent fully black and seem to have this inverted ghost view to them (best way to describe it) It might be down to my colour/brightness settings. On desktop its fine, Ive only noticed it in Movies etc.

Ive not used the 3D glasses but 120hz works and you instantly notice the difference, even on desktop.
For gaming in 120hz, there are very well known issues for ATi users. ATI refuse to amend or from what Ive seen acknowledge the issue, and it lies in the EDID data from what Ive read and understand. You cant do 120hz in an other resolution than then native.

If you use an nvidia card (which Ive tested by using an 8800GTS in my machine) you can setup custom resolutions which will give you 120hz but I wasnt able to keep aspect ratio's and not scale.

Dont notice ghosting, even when I was looking for it and the feel (after coming from a CRT for a good 7 years) is adequate.

    Overall rating 6.5/10
Purely cause of the buttons and bad colours, otherwise it might have been an 8 - but for a £190 TN panel, what would you expect?

I did have a Dell 2408WFP 24" IPS panel with me whilst I had this one, so my review is based on comparing colours and general viewing with that. (going back to 22" after using a 24" beast is depressing too!)

Iirc there is a 1920 LED 120hz monitor from viewsonic being released soon - Might be worth waiting for that.

    Hope that helps.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: Looking for a new monitor

There is no such thing as IPS + 120hz. At least that I am aware of under 1k mark.
If you want IPS = no 120hz and vice versa.

But e-IPS will not provide 120hz, period.
